Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems’ Bowling Green, Kentucky, manufacturing plant has received the Governor’s Safety and Health Award after logging 795,508 hours without a lost-time injury, according to the company. KYSAFE, part of Kentucky’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Education and Training, administers the award. Bendix, a member of Knorr-Bremse, builds its full lineup of commercially available Bendix-brand foundation drum and air disc brakes at the site.

How Does a Plant Qualify for the Governor’s Safety and Health Award?
The award goes to employers and their employees who together reach a minimum number of hours worked without a lost-time injury or illness at their establishment. The required hours depend on the number of employees. The Bowling Green plant falls in the 251–375 employee range, which carries a 750,000-hour requirement.
Hours are not the only test. An establishment must also have no egregious safety or health violations for 24 months from the date a citation is issued. It must also have no pending discrimination complaint and no uncorrected or contested serious violations. Bendix reports that the Bowling Green plant met all of these criteria.
Award Presented at the Facility
A state representative came to the plant on August 26 to present the award, and plant leadership led a tour of the site.
“We’re pleased that our safety efforts in Bowling Green have earned the respected distinction of a Governor’s Safety and Health Award,” said Ed Casper, Bendix safety and security director. “Everybody at the plant shares in this recognition. A strong safety culture doesn’t happen by chance – it’s built through everyday actions.”

The Bowling Green operation opened in 2007 and employs more than 300 people. It produces the full lineup of commercially available Bendix-brand foundation drum and air disc brake solutions for the North American commercial vehicle market.
