PACCAR Incorporated is recalling 58 model year 2027 Peterbilt 548 trucks because incorrectly sized front brake valves and hoses can delay the application and release of the rear service brakes. According to the NHTSA recall notice for campaign 26V567000, the condition can also delay trailer gladhand application times, and the affected trucks fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121, “Air Brake Systems.” NHTSA notes that a delayed brake response time can increase the risk of a crash.

What Is the Defect?
The recall covers the air service brake system. Per the NHTSA summary, the front brake valve and hoses on the affected trucks may be the incorrect size. That condition can delay the application and release of the rear service brakes and lengthen trailer gladhand application times.
Because of the timing delay, the trucks do not meet the requirements of FMVSS 121, the federal standard governing air brake systems. The noncompliance is similar in kind to a brake release timing recall Volvo Trucks filed earlier this year under the same standard.
Remedy and Owner Contact
Dealers will replace the front brake valves and hoses free of charge. PACCAR expects owner notification letters to be mailed October 31, 2026.
