Which Trucks Are Included in the Recall?
The recall covers certain 2020-2023 Freightliner Cascadia and 2022 Western Star 49X vehicles that DTNA says were incorrectly repaired under NHTSA recall numbers 23V073 or 22V817. Both earlier campaigns addressed the same corrosion condition in front-axle brake modulator valves: 23V073 covered trucks without Adaptive Cruise Control, while 22V817 addressed Cascadia trucks equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control.
NHTSA lists the affected components as air service brakes and Electronic Stability Control.
What Is the Safety Risk?
According to the filing, corrosion in the front-axle brake modulator valves may cause the vehicle to pull to one side when braking is initiated by ESC or RSC. Brakes that pull to one side may produce a sudden change in vehicle direction, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy and Owner Notification
Dealers will replace the brake modulator valves free of charge. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will need the new repair completed.
