Bendix Celebrates 95 Years of Innovation

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC (Bendix) is marking its 95th anniversary, reflecting on a long history of pioneering safety technologies and looking toward a future of continued innovation in the commercial vehicle industry. Key Highlights:

  • Bendix commemorates 95 years of operation, emphasizing its legacy in commercial vehicle safety.
  • The company is advancing technologies like Global Scalable Brake Control (GSBC®) and Global Scalable Air Treatment (GSAT®).
  • Significant investments are being made in manufacturing growth, including a new 185,000-square-foot facility in Acuña, Mexico.

“Bendix has always stood at the intersection of innovation and responsibility,” stated Piotr Sroka, Bendix president, chief executive officer, and chief operating officer. “Our products help fleets navigate today’s roadways, and our workforce powers solutions for tomorrow.”

A cornerstone of Bendix’s legacy is its continuous advancement in safety technology. From early air brake valves to modern advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), the company has consistently developed solutions to meet evolving industry needs. Recent innovations include the GSBC® and GSAT® systems, designed for the transition to electric and highly automated vehicles. These are produced at the new Plant 4 in Acuña, Mexico, a facility featuring advanced automation and environmental controls.

Bendix’s manufacturing and engineering footprint is expanding with ongoing investments. Its Acuña operations are among the largest in the Knorr-Bremse global network. The Avon, Ohio headquarters, opened in 2021, houses R&D and business functions in a LEED Silver-certified building. The Bowling Green, Kentucky plant serves as a center for wheel-end technologies, while the Huntington, Indiana campus supports manufacturing, remanufacturing, and distribution, currently undergoing a major upgrade. The Monterrey, Mexico Technical Center focuses on ADAS technologies and software development.

Sustainability is a strategic imperative for Bendix. In 2024, the company diverted over 99% of waste from landfills and achieved Zero Waste to Landfill certification at nine locations plus its Avon headquarters. Bendix also surpassed its U.S. Department of Energy Better Climate Challenge goal six years early, significantly reducing energy consumption.

Beyond its technological and manufacturing achievements, Bendix demonstrates a profound commitment to community engagement. In 2024, employees contributed over 11,000 volunteer hours, and the company donated more than $1 million in grants and sponsorships. Initiatives through Bendix Local Care teams and Employee Resource Groups support various causes, including STEM education and environmental projects.

Looking ahead, Bendix aims to continue advancing technologies that enhance road safety and fleet performance while operating sustainably. Its role within Knorr-Bremse facilitates knowledge transfer and the delivery of scalable solutions for diverse market needs.

“We’re exceptionally proud of what we’ve built over 95 years,” Sroka remarked. “But what drives us is the future – and the chance to help shape it.” This involves listening to customers, investing in personnel, strengthening communities, and building on its enduring legacy.
