Knorr-Bremse Earns Top CDP Climate Rating Score

Knorr-Bremse achieved CDP's top "A" climate rating and improved its S&P Global sustainability score by nine points, placing among industry leaders in environmental transparency and climate action.

Knorr-Bremse AG has achieved significant improvements in two major international sustainability assessments. The braking systems and rail technology supplier earned the highest “A” rating from CDP and posted substantial gains in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment for 2025.

Highlights

  • Knorr-Bremse earned CDP’s top “A” rating, improving from “A-” and joining the top 4% of more than 22,000 assessed companies
  • S&P Global CSA score reached 64 points, a nine-point year-over-year increase placing the company in the top 5% of its sector
  • The company targets net-zero emissions by 2050 across Scope 1-3, with Science Based Target initiative (SBTi)-validated 2030 interim goals

CDP Rating Achievement

The 2025 CDP assessment placed Knorr-Bremse among global leaders in transparency and climate action. CDP operates the most comprehensive environmental database, collecting annual data on CO₂ emissions, climate risks, and reduction targets from companies worldwide.

Achieving the “A” distinction required meeting rigorous standards that only 4% of assessed organizations attained this rating cycle.

S&P Global Assessment Results

In December 2025, Knorr-Bremse posted a 64-point score in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment. The nine-point improvement positions the company among the top 5% globally within the Machinery and Electrical Equipment sector.

The gains stem from successful CO₂ emission reductions and expanded sustainability reporting transparency. S&P Global CSA evaluates companies on industry-specific economic, environmental, and social criteria.

Climate Strategy and Targets

Knorr-Bremse has established comprehensive climate commitments:

  • Net-zero emissions target: 2050 across Scope 1, 2, and 3
  • SBTi-validated interim targets: 2030 milestones covering production, supply chain, and product use
  • Customer support focus: Solutions for safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly rail and road mobility

“Sustainability is firmly embedded in Knorr-Bremse’s corporate strategy,” said Frank Weber, Chief Financial Officer and head of Sustainability. “These excellent results drive us to continue pursuing our ambitious sustainability goals with determination.”
