Brembo Brakes Star in F1 Movie

Brembo, a world leader in high-performance braking systems, is hitting the big screen as an official partner of the highly anticipated “F1® The Movie.” While all 10 teams in Formula 1 currently use Brembo brakes, the company has now extended its expertise to the film’s fictional APXGP team. The movie, from director Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt, features state-of-the-art braking systems designed and supplied by Brembo, ensuring a new level of authenticity in cinematic racing.

Key Highlights

  • Brembo is the official partner for the new “F1® The Movie,” supplying the braking systems for the film’s fictional APXGP race car.
  • The project adds a cinematic milestone to Brembo’s 50th anniversary in motorsport, a legacy that began with Ferrari in 1975.
  • Brembo’s involvement brings unmatched realism to the film, which was shot during actual F1 Grand Prix weekends.
  • The company engineered the movie car’s brakes with the same precision used for real F1 teams, analyzing factors like weight distribution, tire grip, and aerodynamic balance.

Engineering Cinematic Realism

To capture the true intensity of Formula 1, Brembo’s participation was crucial. The film blends real racing with its narrative, and the braking technology needed to reflect that authenticity. Brembo engineers designed a bespoke braking system for the APXGP car, mirroring the meticulous process they follow for actual Grand Prix teams. This attention to detail provided the performance needed on set, where actors and stunt drivers experienced over 4G of deceleration—more than triple what is felt in most road cars.

According to Mauro Piccoli, Brembo’s Chief Marketing Officer, supplying the APXGP car was both a unique challenge and an honor. “Teams across motorsport have partnered with Brembo for five decades to deliver precision braking with maximum performance, reliability and safety,” said Piccoli. He noted that the trust placed in brakes is paramount, and the best in the world—on the track and now on the screen—trust Brembo.

A Legacy of Performance

This cinematic collaboration aligns with Brembo’s 50th anniversary in motorsport. The Italian company’s journey in Formula 1 started in 1975 with Ferrari, initiating a legacy of innovation and success. To date, Brembo has contributed to over 700 championship titles across various motorsport series and more than 500 F1 Grand Prix victories.

From its origins in a small Italian workshop to becoming a global benchmark for vehicle innovation, Brembo’s mission has been defined by enhancing performance and passion. This partnership blurs the lines between real-world racing and cinematic storytelling, placing Brembo at the intersection of technology and entertainment.

“F1® The Movie” arrives in theaters internationally on June 25 and in North America on June 27.
