AP Racing supplied the braking system for the JCB Hydromax, the hydrogen-powered streamliner that averaged 406.320 mph across two runs at the Bonneville Salt Flats on August 11, 2026 to set an FIA world land speed record. Wing Commander Andy Green OBE recorded 400.623 mph on the first pass and 412.135 mph on the return, results that make the twin-engine car the fastest hydrogen-powered vehicle recorded to date. AP Racing also supplied braking systems to JCB Dieselmax, the streamliner whose 350.092 mph record the Hydromax surpassed 20 years later.

Two Runs Averaged for the FIA Mark

The Hydromax is a twin-engine streamliner powered by two production-based hydrogen engines. Its record figure is the average of the two official runs, which bracketed the 406.320 mph result at 400.623 mph and 412.135 mph.

The result establishes the car as the fastest hydrogen-powered vehicle ever recorded and sets a new benchmark for hydrogen internal combustion technology, according to AP Racing.

Speed Week Preceded the FIA Attempt

The FIA record follows a Bonneville Speed Week campaign in which the JCB Hydromax set a Southern California Timing Association class record of 368.347 mph. That run came as the team worked toward the outright FIA world land speed record attempt.

Braking Supply Across Two JCB Record Programs

As the project’s braking supplier, AP Racing provided the equipment for a run profile the company describes as requiring confidence, precision and control in one of motorsport’s most demanding environments. Land speed record work places braking hardware in an unusual duty cycle: a single deceleration from a peak speed above 400 mph rather than the repeated high-energy stops of circuit racing.

The Hydromax program is the second JCB land speed record effort to run AP Racing hardware. The company also supplied braking systems to JCB Dieselmax, whose 350.092 mph diesel record stood for two decades before the Hydromax exceeded it. AP Racing’s supply work spans global motorsport championships alongside engineering programs of this kind.
