EBC Brakes will debut SC Super Ceramic, which the company describes as the lowest-dusting friction material it has ever produced, at this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas. EBC reports the compound carries a considerably higher performance curve than its Redstuff ceramic pad while emitting a similar amount of dust. The company positions the new material close to Bluestuff, its road-legal track-day compound, and will limit launch-year fitments to high-performance applications.

Why No Brake Pad Is Truly Dust-Free
The marketing category of “no dust” pads does not survive contact with how friction braking works. Friction between a pad and a cast-iron rotor is abrasion, and abrasion generates deposits by definition. EBC’s position is that a pad producing genuinely zero dust would also produce no braking effect — an outcome no driver wants.
What varies is not whether dust is generated but what that dust consists of and how it behaves once it lands on a wheel. That distinction, the company argues, separates a satisfactory ownership experience from an unsatisfactory one.
Zero Steel Fiber Across the EBC Range
EBC brake pads have for many years been formulated without metallic particles — steel fibers, in common industry usage. The resulting wear product is a small quantity of black and gray dust that EBC says is removed with soap, water, and a sponge rather than requiring dedicated wheel chemicals or mechanical agitation.
Dust output is not uniform across the brake pad range. Different EBC compounds carry different friction levels, and the amount of material shed tracks the severity with which the pad works against the rotor. That relationship between friction output and wheel contamination is the constraint any low-dust pad compound has to work within.
Where SC Super Ceramic Sits in the Lineup
The new compound is aimed at the point where low-dust behavior and track capability have historically been mutually exclusive. EBC reports SC Super Ceramic emits dust at levels similar to Redstuff while operating on a significantly higher performance curve. The company also states the material does not burnish or etch into alloy wheels or the lacquer coatings applied over them — a failure mode associated with iron-bearing dust bonding to wheel finishes.
On performance, EBC places the compound close to Bluestuff, its established track-day material. The company characterizes the result as a track-capable ceramic pad and describes it as a market first — a claim that rests on EBC’s own comparative testing rather than published third-party data.
Launch-Year Availability Is Narrow
SC Super Ceramic will not arrive as a broad catalog compound. In its launch year, EBC will offer the material only for faster vehicles likely to see occasional track use, or at minimum high-performance street driving. Coverage for mainstream passenger applications is not part of the initial program.
