AP Racing has completed and dispatched its first brake calipers machined entirely in-house, bringing an additional production process under direct company control at its Coventry, England, base. The brake and clutch systems manufacturer says the change tightens the link between design, manufacturing, and quality assurance across its motorsport, OEM, and high-performance automotive product lines. The company describes the step as part of a broader investment program in production capability.

What Does In-House Machining Change for AP Racing?
Machining calipers internally consolidates a step that previously sat outside the company’s direct oversight, giving AP Racing control over the process between design release and finished component. According to the company, that consolidation is intended to improve coordination between engineering and production teams and to support customers across its three main market sectors.
Lee Cowley, Operations Director at AP Racing, said: “By expanding our in-house machining capability, we’re creating closer links between design, manufacturing and quality assurance, allowing our teams to work more collaboratively and efficiently.
“This is about investing in the expertise, technology and processes that will support the next generation of AP Racing products and the customers who rely on them. Machining our race-proven brake calipers in-house gives us greater control throughout the development and production process, helping us deliver the precision, consistency and performance expected in the world’s most demanding racing environments.”
Cowley added that the objective is “delivering greater confidence, control and consistency, helping strengthen the connection between driver and machine,” and said the company was “proud to achieve this milestone at our Coventry facility as we continue to invest in British engineering and the future of AP Racing.”
Coventry Investment and Market Coverage
The company positions the machining capability within a wider investment effort supporting development of braking technologies for global motorsport, OEM, and performance vehicle markets. It follows earlier moves to bring specialist processes onto the Coventry site, including the expansion of the company’s in-house caliper paint operation.
AP Racing says its brake systems are used across leading racing championships, among them Formula 1, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, NASCAR, IndyCar, and Supercars. Its race car product range spans calipers, discs, pads, master cylinders, pedal boxes, and air jacks.
The announcement does not specify machine tool investment values, headcount changes, added capacity, or which caliper families move to in-house machining first.
