Vietnam-based commercial vehicle brake drum manufacturer TBP Auto has secured ISO 14001 certification for its production facility in Hung Yen Province, formalizing the environmental management system used across its foundry operations. The certification adds to the plant’s existing ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 credentials and aligns the supplier with sourcing requirements that have become standard for OEM and Tier 1 buyers in commercial vehicle programs.
Highlights
- TBP Auto’s Hung Yen brake drum factory now holds ISO 14001 environmental management certification
- The plant operates under all three core ISO standards: 9001 (quality), 45001 (safety), and 14001 (environment)
- Environmental controls span casting emissions, machining waste, finishing chemicals, and facility-wide resource use
- Certification supports the company’s expansion into the North American aftermarket
What ISO 14001 Covers
ISO 14001 is a process standard rather than a product standard. It does not assess brake drum performance. Instead, it evaluates whether a manufacturer has documented systems to identify, measure, and reduce environmental impacts, and whether those systems improve through audits and reviews.
For a brake drum foundry, the scope is broad. Energy use, furnace emissions, and waste streams cut across casting, machining, and finishing operations. Each stage requires tracked metrics, controlled processes, and corrective mechanisms to flag gaps.
Production-Stage Application
TBP Auto applies the standard across five operational areas of its Vietnam plant.
Casting and Machining
In the casting stage, environmental controls focus on melt efficiency, furnace emission management, and raw material yield. Machining operations emphasize coolant recovery, chip recycling, and waste sorting.
Finishing and Logistics
Finishing operations involve controlled chemical disposal and process standardization to limit surface treatment waste. Packing and shipping are managed for material reduction and load optimization to lower transport-related impacts.
Facility-Wide Tracking
Beyond individual production stages, the plant tracks water, electricity, and general waste consumption across the facility, with reduction targets reviewed on a regular cadence.
Buyer Expectations Are Shifting
For distributors and fleet operators sourcing internationally, supplier qualification has expanded beyond price and lead time. Environmental and operational governance now factor into vendor selection, particularly for buyers feeding OEM or Tier 1 channels where ISO 14001 has been a baseline requirement for years.
The certification supports TBP Auto’s strategy as it grows its North American commercial vehicle presence, where heavy-duty fleet customers and aftermarket distributors increasingly require verified environmental management as part of supplier onboarding.
Three Standards in One Facility
With ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 in place, the Hung Yen factory now operates under a unified governance framework covering quality control, worker safety, and environmental performance. The combined certifications offer prospective customers a documented basis for due diligence as the company pursues growth in export markets.
