Samsara Introduces Advanced Monitoring for Fleet Compliance

Samsara Inc. has launched its Electronic Brake Performance Monitoring System (EBPMS) to support UK fleets in adhering to new Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) guidelines, effective April 2025, which require four laden brake performance assessments annually. These mandatory roller brake tests (RBTs) can disrupt operations and increase costs for fleet operators.

The EBPMS, integrated into Samsara’s Smart Trailer solution, continuously tracks braking data via the trailer’s electronic braking systems (EBS), potentially reducing the need for frequent physical tests and saving fleets up to £1,200 per trailer each year. Alongside this, Samsara has introduced its Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), currently in open beta, which monitors tire pressure and temperature in real time to boost safety and align with upcoming EU regulations.

Key Highlights:

  • EBPMS: Continuously monitors braking performance, helping fleets meet DVSA standards while minimizing downtime and expenses tied to manual testing.
  • TPMS: Delivers real-time alerts on tire conditions, reducing breakdown risks and supporting compliance with EU safety mandates effective July 2024.
  • Smart Trailer Solution: Features GPS tracking, geofencing, and real-time alerts for security and environmental changes, all accessible via Samsara’s Connected Operations Platform.

David Gal, Vice President of Product and Engineering at Samsara, highlighted the systems’ benefits: “Our new system enables proactive maintenance, minimizing costly failures and vehicle downtime.” Fleet operators echo this sentiment. Simon Colderley of Fox Brothers noted, “Implementing Samsara’s EBPMS will streamline our compliance process without interrupting operations.” Lee Wills from Conway Bailey Transport Ltd / RR Transport Ltd added, “The ‘plug and play’ design offers a simple, unified solution for trailer monitoring.”

The TPMS aligns with EU requirements for new trailers starting July 2024, a standard the UK is likely to follow despite its EU exit. Samsara’s Smart Trailer solution also provides tools like GPS tracking and smart sensors, enabling fleet managers to optimize operations efficiently.
