“Knorr-Bremse has been a driving force behind the development of innovative mobility and transportation technologies for almost 120 years,” said Bernd Spies, Member of the Executive Board of Knorr-Bremse AG with global responsibility for the Commercial Vehicle Systems division. “At IAA Transportation, we’ll be presenting technologies that should play a vital role in bringing about an accident-free future for road traffic.”
Wheel End Solutions
The SYNACT® modular disc brake family represents the latest in pneumatic disc brake technology, saving up to 48 kilograms per vehicle and enhancing energy efficiency. The inclusion of the Active Caliper Release (ACR) function contributes to fuel savings and reduced carbon footprint.
Chassis Control Systems
Knorr-Bremse introduces the latest generation of Global Scalable Brake Control (GSBC), a modular brake control platform that simplifies system layouts and supports functions like ABS and ESP. The system is compatible with advanced driver assistance systems and meets the latest cybersecurity standards. For electric vehicles, GSBC integrates drive motors into the vehicle dynamics control loop, extending range and reducing brake pad wear.
The company is also advancing the Electromechanical Braking System (EMBS), offering full “brake-by-wire” capabilities. EMBS includes a redundant electrical power supply, brake control unit, electromechanical brake actuators, and a built-in parking brake function, providing advantages in installation space, noise reduction, and braking precision.
Steering Technologies
As a leading manufacturer of steering systems, Knorr-Bremse will present Electric Power Steering (EPS) and Advanced Hybrid Power Steering (AHPS) systems. EPS supports electrification and automated driving by applying the power-on-demand principle, reducing energy consumption. AHPS enhances manual steering through torque overlay, suitable for driver assistance functions and complying with standards like ISO 26262.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
Knorr-Bremse’s next-generation ADAS includes systems like the Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) and Moving Off Information System (MOIS), which alert drivers to potential collisions with pedestrians or cyclists. The new Fusion Front ADAS combines front-facing camera and radar technologies to detect complex traffic situations, supporting functions like the Pedestrian Advanced Emergency Braking System (PAEBS) and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA).
Air Supply and Treatment
The company will showcase the Rotary Vane Compressor and the Electric Screw Module, optimized for electric vehicles with low noise and high efficiency. Knorr-Bremse is also developing oil-free compressor technology to improve energy efficiency and sustainability. The Global Scalable Air Treatment (GSAT) platform offers a modular solution for electronic air processing, complying with key regulatory standards and accommodating an electronic parking brake.
Innovations for Trailers
Knorr-Bremse introduces the iTEBS® X intelligent electronic trailer braking system, a global platform that integrates electronic control, sensor technology, and pneumatic brake control in a compact assembly. The cloud-based Online Configuration Tool (OCT) enhances iTEBS X with a future-proof diagnostics concept and complies with UNECE R156 regulations.
Other trailer solutions include the NexTT® disc brake, the lightest 22.5-inch disc brake for trailers, offering energy efficiency and optional ACR for fuel savings. Driver assistance features like iReverse and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) aim to improve safety in commercial operations.
Event Participation
Knorr-Bremse invites industry professionals to visit their booth at IAA Transportation 2024 in Hanover (Hall 12, Booth C21). The company looks forward to engaging with visitors and discussing their latest developments in person.
Knorr-Bremse continues to lead in providing innovative solutions that enhance safety and efficiency in commercial vehicles. By focusing on advanced technologies in braking, steering, and driver assistance, the company contributes significantly to the future of transportation.
