Knorr-Bremse Previews Braking, Steering Tech at IAA 2026

Knorr-Bremse will premiere an oil-free MTP air compressor and preview its rGSBC redundant braking system and Electric Power Steering at IAA Transportation 2026, with both products bound for the market in 2027.

Knorr-Bremse will premiere an oil-free electric air compressor and preview a redundant braking system bound for series production in 2027 at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover. Knorr-Bremse, which calls itself the global market and technology leader in braking systems, is positioning its stand around four themes: zero emissions, redundancy and automated driving, traffic safety, and connectivity. The lineup spans braking, steering, air supply, and aftermarket software, with several products timed for launch over the next two years.

Highlights

  • The Multi Tumble Piston (MTP) compressor makes its trade-show debut — an oil-free, electrically driven unit the company positions for scalable use with or without an inverter.
  • The redundant braking system (rGSBC) is scheduled for series production in 2027, built on the company’s GSBC brake-control platform.
  • Electric Power Steering (EPS) is set for market launch in 2027; the company reports it cuts steering energy use by up to 90 percent versus conventional systems.
  • Knorr-Bremse will exhibit in Hall 12, Booth C21, from September 15–20, 2026.

Product Premieres on the Stand

The centerpiece of the booth is a Center Display that walks visitors through the company’s product themes using physical exhibits and digital applications. Knorr-Bremse is again building its stand around reusable containers, which it says are redeployed as part of a truck roadshow after the event.

The headline debut is the oil-free, electrically driven Multi Tumble Piston (MTP) compressor, which the company describes as cost-efficient and designed for an optimized lifecycle, with scalable use with or without an inverter for compressed-air supply. The redundant braking system (rGSBC), scheduled for series production in 2027 and based on the GSBC platform, is designed to keep braking functions available in the event of a fault — a prerequisite the company ties to highly automated driving. A third highlight, Electric Power Steering (EPS), is slated for market launch in 2027; Knorr-Bremse reports its “power-on-demand” design reduces steering energy consumption by up to 90 percent against conventional systems.

Knorr-Bremse is also applying its system expertise to Software Defined Vehicles as a basis for updatable vehicle architectures, and is expanding its aftermarket presence through the CVS Service Platform, a set of offerings aimed at fleet operators, workshops, and distributors.

Four Themes Driving the Lineup

The company groups its IAA exhibits under four headings:

  • Zero Emission: Solutions for electrified powertrains, including the energy-efficient SYNACT® disc brake family, the oil-free eCompressor MTP, and technologies aimed at reducing brake dust under Euro 7 and noise.
  • Redundancy and Automated Driving: Fail-safe architectures built on the rGSBC redundant braking system, EPS, and a redundant steering version (rEPS) intended to support controlled vehicle guidance up to mission-complete functions.
  • Traffic Safety: A range running from braking systems to driver assistance, including the Knorr-Bremse Fusion Front and Side ADAS.
  • CVS Service Platform: Aftermarket tools including Cojali multi-brand diagnostics and telematics, the PleaseFix booking system, WESP CV workshop benchmarking, and the TRAVIS road-services platform, alongside trailer software such as the Online Configuration Tool (OCT), the Software Update Management System (SUMS), and the new iXPAND port expander.

Bernd Spies, Member of the Executive Board of Knorr-Bremse AG and responsible for the Commercial Vehicle Systems Division, framed the approach: “As a specialist in safety-critical systems, we support our customers on their journey toward zero emissions, automated driving, and connected commercial vehicles. Our innovation approach is clearly focused: less complexity, more impact. What is needed are solutions with measurable added value that can be flexibly integrated into different vehicle architectures. The current performance of our Truck Division clearly shows that we are investing in the right areas. We remain focused on driving growth and increasing content per vehicle, and we will present our innovation pipeline at IAA Transportation 2026.”
