Carlisle Launches Pads for Mine Haul Trucks

MEDINA, Ohio — Carlisle Brake & Friction has launched brake pads for the mine haul commercial-vehicle market.

The new product series will be named Extended Life, or the EL Series, and EL121 will be the first friction formulation of the series to launch.

Carlisle’s EL121 Series friction material nearly doubles the service life of front-axle, mine haul truck brake pads. The result is increased equipment uptime, and reduced maintenance costs when utilizing the OEM calipers and rotors.

Autonomous haul trucks experience higher pad temperatures, which drive elevated pad wear from increased braking cycles as the retarder and the service brake are applied. EL121 features a highly wear-resistant friction material blend that provides extended brake pad life with consistent and fade-resistant braking performance.

EL121 is the ideal solution for today’s autonomous mine haul trucks (may also be used in manned mine haul trucks for increased performance and longevity).

“We understand that mine operators need to keep their haul trucks on the job and not in the shop for brake service,” said Ron Ratell, Product Line Director Friction Products at Carlisle Brake & Friction. “Our latest innovation allows for up to double the service life of the front-axle mine haul truck brake pads and are a will-fit replacement to existing OEM pads.

“These were thoroughly lab tested as well as field tested on Komatsu 830E-1 trucks,”

EL121 friction has been dyno tested to replicate the application and is proven to deliver an innovative, high-energy material to meet market needs. EL121 disc brake pads also feature an industry-proven mechanical retention system with backing plate technology designed for superior bonding and durability, capable of withstanding abusive conditions in even the harshest Off-Highway environments.

Carlisle’s EL121 Series disc brake pads are available now through authorized Carlisle dealers and distributors.
