Brembo Brings Hyction Carboceramic Discs to WorldSBK

Brembo will introduce its Hyction carboceramic brake disc to the Superbike World Championship from 2027, replacing steel discs and becoming the exclusive braking-system supplier for the entire grid.

Brembo will introduce its Hyction carboceramic brake disc to the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship from the 2027 season, becoming the exclusive braking-system supplier for the entire grid. The move replaces the steel discs used in the series through the 2026 season and, the company says, marks the first use of carboceramic material in a production-based motorcycle racing competition. Brembo says the Hyction disc — a name blending “hyper” and “action” — is engineered to give riders a more consistent and controllable braking feel than the steel units it succeeds.

Highlights

  • Hyction carboceramic discs debut in WorldSBK from the 2027 season, replacing the steel discs run through 2026.
  • Brembo becomes the exclusive braking-system supplier for the entire WorldSBK grid starting in 2027.
  • The rollout is, according to Brembo, the first appearance of carboceramic material in a production-based motorcycle racing competition.

From Steel to Carboceramic Discs

The switch from steel to carboceramic represents a significant change in the series’ braking package. Brembo says the new discs improve on the steel solution across four areas:

  • Consistency — steadier performance throughout the entire braking phase
  • Modulation — more precise and progressive control at the lever
  • Durability — longer component life with reduced wear
  • Stability — more predictable braking across varying conditions

The company says the result is more effective braking management that lets riders carry more confidence into corners. This is a development that, in Brembo’s framing, expands work it began earlier this year when it brought the Hyction disc to a production road motorcycle.

Mauro Piccoli, Brembo Chief Marketing Officer, said: “In WorldSBK, performance is forged under pressure, corner after corner. With Hyction, we are introducing a technology designed to give riders a more direct and predictable relationship with braking. Becoming the exclusive supplier from 2027 means playing an active role in the technical evolution of the Championship, helping define its new standards. WorldSBK is our ideal laboratory: here we work closely with the best riders and teams in the world, and what we develop on track directly fuels innovation for road applications as well.”

WorldSBK as a Development Platform

Brembo positions the championship as a testing ground for technology it later moves into production applications. WorldSBK fields machines derived from road-going motorcycles, which the company says makes on-track data directly relevant to the bikes enthusiasts buy. The Hyction program in the series builds on Brembo’s broader WorldSBK Innovation Partner agreement, announced earlier this year.

Gregorio Lavilla, WorldSBK Executive Director, added: “WorldSBK represents the closest link between racing and the motorcycles ridden by enthusiasts around the world. By expanding our collaboration with Brembo in this new technical chapter, we are reinforcing the Championship’s relevance as a platform where innovation developed through racing contributes to the future of production motorcycles. I would also like to thank the manufacturers, the teams and the FIM for their collaboration and support in defining a technical direction that keeps WorldSBK closely aligned with the development of the motorcycle industry.”

A Single-Supplier Model From 2027

Alongside the disc itself, the 2027 arrangement makes Brembo the sole braking-systems supplier across the grid. The company says a single supply standard is intended to deliver technological uniformity and cost control while shifting more of the competitive variable onto rider talent. Brembo describes the carboceramic disc as a new reference point for motorcycle braking systems.
