Wilwood Disc Brakes has released the XRS, a forged aluminum street caliper that weighs 4.5 pounds and starts at $664.10 MSRP. The Camarillo, California, manufacturer built the caliper on its Superlite Radial Mount platform and on the XRZ race caliper, adding what it calls an X-bridge architecture. Wilwood offers the unit in six-piston and four-piston configurations.
Highlights
- Weight: 4.5 pounds per caliper
- Configurations: Six-piston and four-piston, direct-fit to Wilwood Forged Billet Narrow Superlite radial mounting patterns
- Finish: Hard anodized inside and out, with gloss red or gloss black powder coat standard; 26 additional caliper colors and six logo colors available at extra cost
- Pricing: MSRP starts at $664.10
How the X-Bridge Architecture Is Built
Wilwood said the caliper body is developed through finite element analysis and precision CNC machining, forming forged aluminum into the X-bridge structure. The company describes the result as stronger, lighter and more rigid, with improved airflow for cooling. Wilwood did not state a baseline product against which those gains are measured.
At 4.5 pounds, the caliper reduces unsprung weight, which the company says improves handling and responsiveness.
Which Wilwood Calipers Does the XRS Fit?
The XRS is engineered as a direct-fit upgrade for vehicles running Wilwood’s Forged Billet Narrow Superlite six- and four-piston radial mounting patterns. According to Wilwood, the XRS is offered with comparable piston bore size and rotor width options, so the caliper drops into existing radial-mount installations rather than requiring a new bracket or rotor package.
Seals, Pistons and Service Life
The caliper uses high-temperature seals and stainless-steel pistons. Wilwood said that combination is intended to support extended service life and consistent performance in street driving and during track-day events.
Finish and Color Options
All XRS calipers are hard anodized inside and out. Standard powder coat finishes are gloss red and gloss black. Buyers can specify 26 additional caliper colors and six logo color options for an additional charge.
Pricing
MSRP for the XRS line starts at $664.10.
