Brake Light Flaw Prompts Freightliner Recall

More than 6,000 Freightliner Cascadia models from 2017-2018 are being recalled by Daimler Trucks.

The problem: brake lights that remain on even after the driver takes his foot off the brake pedal. This would prevent accurate communication with other drivers, who would not be able to tell when the driver actually applies the brake.

About 5% of the 6,326 recalled vehicles are believed to have this condition, which is believed to be caused by surface contaminants contacting the brake pressure switch. Honeywell built the pressure switch. Currently no accidents are known to have been caused by this defect.

According to NHTSA: The remedy for this recall is still under development and the recall is expected to begin December 17, 2018.
