Mazda North American Operations has released a video featuring Jennifer Morrison, Director of Vehicle Safety, detailing the 2026 CX-5’s expanded safety and braking technologies. The redesigned crossover introduces multiple new standard driver-assist features focused on collision prevention and pedestrian protection.
Highlights
- Rear Automatic Emergency Braking and Rear Cross Traffic Braking now come standard across all 2026 CX-5 trims
- Turn-Across Traffic Braking adds protection during left-turn maneuvers at intersections
- Blind Spot Assist provides active steering intervention to prevent lane-change collisions
- All safety and driver assistance features are standard equipment, not optional upgrades
Expanded Braking Intervention Systems
The 2026 CX-5 adds several braking-based active safety systems to its standard equipment roster. Rear Automatic Emergency Braking detects obstacles behind the vehicle and applies brakes automatically when reversing. Rear Cross Traffic Braking extends this protection to crossing traffic scenarios common in parking lots.
Turn-Across Traffic Braking addresses intersection collisions by detecting oncoming vehicles during left turns and intervening with automatic braking when necessary. These systems detect pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcycles in addition to other vehicles.
Driver Assistance Technologies
The updated model includes Emergency Lane Keeping, which combines lane detection with automatic braking to prevent unintended lane departures. Blind Spot Assist goes beyond warning alerts by providing active steering input to help drivers avoid collisions during lane changes.
Additional standard features include:
- Traffic Sign Recognition for speed limit and sign awareness
- Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Speed Limit Assist for adaptive speed management
- Lane Change Assist for highway driving support
- Enhanced 360-degree parking camera with improved resolution
“That’s what is most important to us, helping to protect our customers and everyone they share the road with,” said Morrison.
