Bendix Sustainability Milestones 2024

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, a leader in advanced active safety, air management, and braking technologies for commercial vehicles, took bold steps in 2024 to advance sustainability, achieving remarkable progress in renewable energy, emissions reduction, and waste management. As a key player in Knorr-Bremse’s global strategy, Bendix is dedicated to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, with a special emphasis on Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12) and Climate Action (SDG 13).

Key Highlights:

  • Emissions Reduction: Achieved a 70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2018, exceeding their 2030 goal.
  • Waste Diversion: Diverted over 19,000 tons of waste from landfills, maintaining a 99% diversion rate across facilities.
  • Renewable Energy: Installed solar arrays in Huntington and Acuña, generating millions of kilowatt-hours and significant cost savings.
  • Industry Recognition: Earned the Industria Verde certification and DOE’s Better Climate Challenge Goal Achiever award.

Bendix’s sustainability efforts are deeply rooted in its commitment to the UN’s SDGs, particularly SDG 12 and SDG 13. As part of Knorr-Bremse’s global initiatives, the company focuses on reducing its environmental footprint through innovative technologies and operational efficiencies.

In 2024, Bendix made significant progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, achieving a 70% reduction from 2018 levels, well ahead of their 2030 target. This was largely due to strategic investments in renewable energy, including solar arrays in Huntington, Indiana, and Acuña, Mexico, which generated millions of kilowatt-hours and resulted in substantial cost savings.

The company also excelled in waste management, diverting over 19,000 tons of waste from landfills and maintaining a 99% diversion rate. Eight manufacturing sites, along with the Avon headquarters, have earned Zero Waste to Landfill certification, underscoring Bendix’s commitment to minimizing waste.

Employee-led Green Teams play a crucial role in promoting sustainability within the company and the community. Initiatives include recycling programs, composting, and community garden projects, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

To support the transition to electric vehicles, Bendix expanded its EV charging infrastructure at the Avon headquarters, increasing the number of charging stations and dedicated parking spaces. This initiative has encouraged employee adoption of EVs, contributing to reduced emissions.

Bendix’s sustainability leadership was recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy, earning the company the Better Climate Challenge Goal Achiever award for surpassing its emissions reduction targets.

Looking ahead, Bendix remains committed to continuous improvement in sustainability, aligning with Knorr-Bremse’s ESG goals and striving to create a cleaner, more efficient future for generations to come.
