Bendix Sets Safety Record in 2024

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC achieved its best-ever safety performance in 2024, recording only nine recordable injuries across its North American operations. This milestone reflects the company’s deep commitment to safety, driven by enhanced programs, empowered employees, and a proactive culture of prevention. By prioritizing risk reduction and fostering a strong safety culture, Bendix continues to set a high standard in the commercial vehicle industry.

Key Highlights:

  • Record-Low Injuries: Bendix reported just nine recordable injuries in 2024, with a Total Case Incident Rate (TCIR) of 0.21, well below the industry average of 2.20.
  • Milestone Achievements: Multiple facilities, including distribution centers in Montreal (20+ years injury-free), Mexico City (16 years), and Acuña (7 years), marked significant injury-free periods.
  • Proactive Reporting: Employees reported over 5,800 unsafe conditions and 3,800 unsafe behaviors, enabling early risk mitigation.
  • Global Expansion: Bendix plans to extend its safety practices to all Knorr-Bremse locations worldwide in 2025.

The company’s success stems from a comprehensive safety framework. Leadership-led initiatives, such as annual back-to-work sessions, reinforce safety as a daily priority. The Safety Share program, required at every meeting, promotes awareness by sharing emergency information and personal safety tips. Additionally, the Walk & Talk program involves weekly supervisor audits and monthly leadership reviews to identify and address risks in real time. Employees are further empowered through stop-work authority, allowing them to halt unsafe tasks immediately.

Bendix’s culture of reporting and learning from incidents has been crucial. In 2024, employees logged over 600 first-aid incidents and incidents without injury, applying lessons across all sites to prevent future issues. Recognition programs like Safety STARS and the Knorr Production System (KPS) Reward event celebrate teams and individuals for their contributions to safety.

Looking ahead, Bendix aims to globalize its safety model in 2025, applying its proven strategies to Knorr-Bremse’s worldwide operations. “Safe isn’t just the best way to work – it’s the only way,” said Ed Casper, Bendix global safety director. With nearly 4,000 employees, Bendix continues to lead the industry in safety innovation, ensuring every worker returns home safely.
