Autocar, LLC is recalling 137 model year 2023–2027 ACTT terminal tractors because the Antilock Braking System (ABS) Electronic Control Unit may not be properly secured. The recall population covers every battery-electric E-ACTT unit built with the suspect ABS ECU, spanning production from February 21, 2022, through July 26, 2026. Autocar filed the campaign with NHTSA as recall 26V501 under its own designation ACTT-2601 and estimates 100 percent of the population carries the defect.

What Is the Defect?
The filing describes an ABS ECU that may not be properly secured to its mounting. If the unit separates, it can become damaged and the ABS system may stop functioning, increasing the risk of a crash. Autocar attributes the condition to a manufacturing error rather than a supplier component failure — the company lists itself as the OEM supplier of the ABS ECU.
Drivers get one warning. The filing identifies the ABS Malfunction Indicator Light as the sole indication that the condition has occurred, which places the burden on operators to treat an illuminated ABS lamp as a reason to pull the unit from yard service.
How Autocar Identified the Problem
Autocar personnel found a unit with missing fasteners at the ABS ECU during a routine inspection on April 20, 2026. The company corrected that unit and opened an investigation, which ran from May 12, 2026, through July 10, 2026.
On July 23, 2026, Autocar presented the findings to its management team, which elected to conduct a voluntary safety recall covering all suspect units. The company updated both the fasteners and the manufacturing process on July 10, 2026, and July 23, 2026, closing the condition in production.

Remedy and Notification Schedule
Autocar will replace the suspect fasteners and properly secure the ABS ECU at no cost to the owner. Owners will receive a notification letter describing the defect and providing instructions for scheduling the inspection and repair.
Owners who paid to have the condition remedied before the campaign may seek reimbursement under Autocar’s General Reimbursement Plan, on file with NHTSA under 49 C.F.R. 573.6(c)(8)(i) and 49 C.F.R. 573.13. Dealer and owner notification is scheduled for September 25, 2026, through September 28, 2026, and the filing designates this a phased recall.
