Applus+ IDIADA has launched a new state-of-the-art facility for measuring brake particle emissions, addressing upcoming Euro 7 standards set to become mandatory in November 2026. Located in Spain, the facility features advanced test cells designed for light vehicles up to 3,500 kg, fully compliant with GTR24 specifications. This strategic move aims to support manufacturers in meeting stricter emissions regulations.
Key Highlights:
- New brake emissions testing facility at Applus+ IDIADA headquarters in Spain.
- Facility includes two advanced test cells for light vehicles, compliant with GTR24 standards.
- Facility addresses growing demand from manufacturers and brake component companies for Euro 7 compliance.
- Comprehensive testing capabilities for PM10, PM2.5, TPN10, and SPN10 particles.
- Member of Particle Measurement Programme (PMP) working group, ensuring industry-leading procedures.
Applus+ IDIADA’s new facility features two advanced test cells, enabling the simultaneous testing of right-hand and left-hand corner brake assemblies. The new service complements existing emissions testing capabilities and supports both vehicle and dynamometer testing for brake emissions. Applus+ IDIADA’s involvement in the Particle Measurement Programme (PMP) ensures that its testing methods adhere to the latest industry standards.
The brake emissions testing process is thorough, starting with a 22-hour simulated driving cycle for conditioning, followed by a six-hour test to measure particle number and mass. The testing system measures particles such as PM10, PM2.5, TPN10, and SPN10, providing a comprehensive analysis of brake wear emissions. This advanced capability helps reduce project timelines through optimized testing fixtures and efficient in-house design.
Additionally, Applus+ IDIADA offers a pressure-based method to determine vehicle-specific friction braking share coefficients using chassis dynamometer testing facilities. This enhancement aims to improve the precision and relevance of testing results, meeting the needs of both vehicle manufacturers and brake component specialists.
With this expansion, Applus+ IDIADA is well-positioned to support the industry as it navigates the challenges posed by the Euro 7 emissions standards. The new facility, now fully operational, highlights Applus+ IDIADA’s role in shaping the future of environmentally friendly automotive technologies, offering robust support to manufacturers and helping pave the way for cleaner vehicles.
