Seven Subaru vehicles have been recommended by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and Consumer Reports for teen drivers. These recommendations include both new and used models, highlighting Subaru’s commitment to safety and reliability.

Subaru of America, Inc. announced that seven of its vehicles have been recommended by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and Consumer Reports for both new and used vehicles suitable for teen drivers.
Families seeking a safe and practical vehicle for young drivers can choose among 58 used and 22 new vehicles recommended by IIHS and Consumer Reports. The recommendations are based on comprehensive evaluations, including vehicle type, size, reliability, emergency handling, braking distance performance, and safety ratings.
New Vehicle Recommendations: All recommended new vehicles are 2024 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK+ winners, demonstrating excellent performance in various crash tests, pedestrian crash prevention, and headlight ratings. Additionally, these vehicles scored well in Consumer Reports evaluations for reliability, emergency handling, braking distance, and ease of use of controls.
Used Vehicle Recommendations: IIHS and Consumer Reports split their recommendations into “Best” and “Good” lists. Subaru secured multiple positions on both lists. All recommended used vehicles have good or acceptable ratings in key IIHS tests and strong marks for braking, handling, and reliability from Consumer Reports. The “Best” list vehicles also include standard automatic emergency braking (AEB).

- Subaru Ascent
- Subaru Impreza
- Subaru Outback
Recommended Used Vehicles: Best Choice:
- Subaru Legacy (2019)
- Subaru Forester (2021 or newer)
Recommended Used Vehicles: Good Choice:
- Subaru Impreza sedan or 5-door (2019-2020)
- Subaru Legacy (2017-2018)
