KTM Recalls Motorcycles Over Front Brake Caliper Defect

A faulty front brake caliper may crack, potentially leading to brake failure and increasing the risk of a crash. KTM North America, Inc. has issued a recall affecting 5,116 motorcycles from Husqvarna and GASGAS due to potential defects in the front brake caliper. The defect, caused by casting irregularities, can result in the upper guide pin of the caliper cracking, reducing braking effectiveness.

Key Highlights:

  • Affected Models:
    • 2022-2024 Husqvarna FE 350s, FE 501s
    • 2024-2025 GASGAS ES 350, ES 500
  • Manufacturing Defect:
    • Irregularities in the casting structure of a brake component supplied by J. Juan
    • The defect weakens the caliper’s upper guide pin, increasing the risk of failure.
  • Safety Risk:
    • If the caliper cracks, the front brake system may fail, raising the likelihood of accidents and injuries.
  • Remedy:
    • Authorized KTM, GASGAS, and Husqvarna dealers will inspect and replace defective calipers at no cost.
  • Owner Notification:
    • KTM will mail official recall notifications starting April 7, 2025.
    • Dealers will be informed starting February 10, 2025.

The recall follows an investigation by KTM Sportmotorcycle GmbH and J. Juan, which identified casting defects in some brake calipers. No injuries or deaths have been reported. KTM has since changed its sub-suppliers to prevent further issues.

Owners are urged to check their VIN and schedule an inspection as soon as possible to ensure their motorcycles are safe to ride.
