Harley-Davidson has issued a recall for certain 2022 FXRST and 2022-2024 FXLRST motorcycles due to a potential issue where the front brake lines may contact the fuel tank, leading to possible damage. This defect could result in a brake fluid leak and loss of front brake function, which increases the risk of a crash. Harley-Davidson plans to inspect and replace the affected brake lines if necessary, at no cost to the owners.

Key Highlights:

  • Recall affects 15,778 motorcycles, including 2022 FXRST and 2022-2024 FXLRST models.
  • Front brake lines may bend and contact the fuel tank, potentially causing damage and brake fluid leakage.
  • Owners will be notified starting October 21, 2024, and are encouraged to schedule an inspection.
  • Repairs will be conducted at authorized Harley-Davidson dealers free of charge.

The recall, issued under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V753000, involves inspecting the brake lines for any bending that could lead to contact with the fuel tank. If such contact is found, the brake lines will be repaired or replaced to prevent leakage and maintain front brake functionality.

The Harley-Davidson Motor Company General Reimbursement Program for Pre-Notification Remedies will apply, ensuring that any necessary repairs performed before the recall announcement can be reimbursed. Owners are urged to contact Harley-Davidson Customer Service at (414) 343-4056 or visit their local dealership for more information. Notifications will also be sent out to registered owners by mail.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) encourages owners to call their Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for further details on this recall.
