Haldex has made its Trailer Application Guide (TAG) available as a free online resource for trailer technicians, fleet managers, and OEMs. The platform consolidates technical documentation, diagnostic procedures, and specification tools for the company’s commercial vehicle trailer braking products into a single digital hub.
Highlights
- TAG provides 24/7 access to technical specs, diagnostic procedures, and documentation for Haldex electronic braking systems, ABS, disc brakes, and air suspension controls.
- A built-in load sensing valve calculator replaces decades-old paper charts, eliminating manual arithmetic in safety-critical brake adjustments.
- Recent updates add EB+ 4.0 and ABS 4.0 coverage, along with agriculture-specific valve content and SUMS regulation information.
- The visual, layered interface serves multiple user levels — from quick product overviews to deep technical detail — across four languages.
From Internal Tool to Public Platform
TAG began as an internal knowledge-sharing system at Haldex. Staff used it to organize documentation across the company’s trailer product range. As its utility became clear, Haldex opened the platform to external users.
“There were new people coming on board regularly. So, we’d need, not just initial training, but also day-to-day training. Every day you need access to a lot of information about a lot of different products in our range, with different levels of detail,” said André Wilt, trailer products specialist at Haldex.
Since SAF-Holland’s acquisition of Haldex, the combined group’s broader portfolio has added further value to the centralized resource.
Visual Interface Serves Multiple Audiences
TAG’s landing page displays an overhead view of a tractor-trailer combination with clickable component illustrations. Users select any part to access technical specs, then drill deeper as needed.
The structure remains consistent across all product categories. Wilt explained that the first page of each product provides an overview of its trailer application and customer benefit. Users who need more detail — whether fleet managers, service technicians, or trailer builders — navigate progressively deeper through the menu.
“I can use it for OE customers who are building the vehicle, and I can also use it for aftermarket, and for training if I want to,” said Lars-Olof Ohrberg, technical sales engineer at Haldex.
The image-driven design also reduces language barriers. TAG supports French, English, German, and Spanish. However, its visual layout makes navigation intuitive even for non-native speakers.
Replacing Email-Based Technical Support
Before TAG, technicians had to email Haldex representatives for cable part numbers, technical drawings, and diagnostic guidance. That process created bottlenecks as email volume grew.
Now, diagnostic procedures sit directly within the platform. For cable troubleshooting, TAG provides step-by-step testing instructions. Haldex staff can direct customers to the relevant guide and follow up only if the issue persists.
Ohrberg has integrated TAG into remote diagnostic sessions using TeamViewer. When a workshop customer needs a program update, the team accesses the files directly through TAG at no charge.
Specification Tools for OEMs and Agriculture
For trailer manufacturers, TAG consolidates available parts with full descriptions, technical drawings, and 3D models. OEMs can review specifications, download models, and proceed with vehicle analysis independently.
The platform’s load sensing valve calculator is a notable addition. It replaces paper-based charts and manual calculations that technicians have used since the 1970s. Users enter brake pressure values, and the tool returns correct valve settings instantly. This removes the risk of arithmetic errors in safety-critical adjustments.
TAG is also gaining traction in the agricultural sector. New vehicle regulations have introduced air brake systems to agricultural trailers, creating demand for accessible technical education. Wilt noted that agricultural trailer builders are skilled manufacturers but often lack deep knowledge of brake systems and valves. TAG fills that gap around the clock.
The Trailer Application Guide is available free on the Haldex website.
