Cummins Launches Universal-Fit MFLEX4 Air Disc Brake Pad

Cummins introduces the Meritor MFLEX4 air disc brake pad, a universal-fit aftermarket solution compatible with four major caliper platforms and covering an estimated 70% of the Class 8 market.

Cummins Inc. has introduced the Meritor MFLEX4™ air disc brake pad, a patent-pending aftermarket product engineered to fit four widely used air disc brake caliper models. The single-SKU approach addresses inventory complexity and fitment challenges facing fleets and distributors in the North American heavy-duty commercial vehicle sector.

Highlights

  • Broad compatibility: The MFLEX4 pad fits Bendix ADB22X, Hendrickson MAXX22T, WABCO MAXXUS, and WABCO PAN22 calipers, covering an estimated 70% of the Class 8 truck and trailer market.
  • Dual friction formulations: Linehaul and severe-service friction mixes are engineered to meet or exceed OE pad performance standards.
  • Inventory consolidation: The universal-fit design reduces SKU proliferation for distributors and simplifies procurement for fleet operators.
  • Integrated installation kits: Each pad ships with all components required for technician installation.

Technical Specifications and Design Features

The MFLEX4 pad incorporates Meritor Positive Pad Retraction (PPR) Springs, designed to reduce drag and extend rotor and pad service life under typical operating conditions. Cummins states the feature supports improved fuel efficiency, though specific performance data was not disclosed.

The product line offers two friction compound options:

  • Linehaul formulation: Optimized for long-haul trucking applications
  • Severe-service formulation: Engineered for demanding duty cycles including vocational and regional operations

Pricing and Warranty Structure

Cummins has implemented uniform pricing across all four caliper applications, providing cost predictability for fleet maintenance budgets. The MFLEX4 pad includes a limited one-year warranty, with continued Bendix ADB22X caliper warranty coverage maintained.

Market Positioning

Jason Soika, North American Aftermarket General Manager for Cummins Drivetrain and Braking Systems, characterized the product as addressing “common challenges, such as fitment complexity, parts proliferation and service efficiency.”

The business unit, formerly operating under the Meritor brand, leverages OE braking system expertise developed through its original equipment manufacturing relationships.

Availability

The MFLEX4 pad is available through Meritor aftermarket distributors across North America. Additional product information and ordering are accessible at MeritorPartsXpress.com.
