Brembo Sensify Brake-by-Wire Platform Enters Series Production

Brembo’s Sensify intelligent braking platform has entered large-scale series production with a leading global automaker, with additional contracts signed and volumes expected to reach hundreds of thousands of units annually.

Brembo announced on May 4 that its Sensify intelligent braking platform has entered large-scale series production with a leading global vehicle manufacturer, fitted as standard on every vehicle in the program. The Italian supplier said it has signed additional Sensify contracts with new customers and now expects to equip hundreds of thousands of vehicles per year with the system. Full details are available on the Brembo press portal.

Highlights

  • Sensify enters series production fitted on 100% of vehicles in a launch program for an unnamed global automaker
  • Brembo projects hundreds of thousands of units per year following additional contract wins with new customers
  • Platform uses a fluid-free, by-wire architecture that distributes braking intelligence at the wheel and removes hydraulic circuits and centralized actuation
  • Production milestone places Brembo among the first Western tier-one suppliers to commercialize software-defined braking at scale

A Software-Defined Braking Platform Reaches Industrial Scale

According to Brembo, Sensify is engineered as a scalable, by-wire architecture intended to support advanced vehicle architectures ranging from driver-assistance systems to fully autonomous applications. The company describes the platform as fluid-free, distributing intelligence at the wheel level and removing hydraulic circuits and centralized actuation in favor of independent wheel control.

The supplier said this approach allows continuous modulation of braking forces and supports more stable vehicle behavior in variable driving conditions. Brembo positions Sensify as a natural fit for the software-defined vehicle paradigm, with hardware paired to adaptable software layers that can be updated and extended across a vehicle’s lifecycle.

The launch customer for the production program was not disclosed.

Executive Commentary

Daniele Schillaci, CEO of Brembo, framed the milestone as the industrial realization of the company’s long-stated braking strategy.

“Sensify translates our vision of an intelligent, integrated braking platform into industrial reality. Designed to orchestrate the entire corner ecosystem, it supports safer mobility, while paving the way for the next generation of software-defined vehicles, reflecting our long-term purpose of shaping a Zero Accident Future.”

Competitive Context

Brembo’s production launch comes amid an accelerating wave of brake-by-wire and electromechanical braking (EMB) commercialization. Chery Automobile announced earlier this year that its Exeed EX7 will be the first mass-production vehicle equipped with a fully electronic mechanical braking system, while suppliers including Bosch, ZF, BWI Group, and Hitachi Astemo have outlined competing roadmaps for dry by-wire deployment between 2025 and 2028.

In a 2024 industry survey of brake-by-wire timelines, Brembo’s head of Sensify and mechatronics platform management indicated the system would be production-ready around mid-decade — a timeline today’s announcement broadly meets.

The company said Sensify is differentiated from the wider EMB field by its combination of dedicated hardware and adaptable software layers, which Brembo argues will give automakers consistency and scalability across vehicle platforms.

Outlook

Brembo characterized the production launch as a step toward broader deployment of by-wire, software-defined braking in safety-critical applications. The supplier did not disclose specific volumes for the initial program, model timing, or geographic launch markets, and did not name the additional customers covered by the recently signed contracts.
