Bendix Huntington Marks 45 Years of Innovation

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems celebrates 45 years of its Huntington, Indiana, operation, a key player in its North American network. Since opening in 1980 with 30 employees, the site has grown to over 400 team members, evolving into a high-tech hub for manufacturing, remanufacturing, and distribution. The milestone reflects Bendix’s focus on advanced technology, quality, and community impact, driven by recent multimillion-dollar investments and a workforce dedicated to safety and excellence.

Key Highlights:

  • Growth Over Time: From 30 employees in 1980 to over 400 today, the Huntington campus now spans 855,000 square feet across four buildings.
  • Tech Upgrades: The Bendix Distribution Center (BDC) is becoming a cutting-edge facility with automation, set for completion in late 2025.
  • Product Expansion: Centralized engine vibration damper production boosts efficiency and capacity.

Bendix’s Huntington site has transformed from a small distribution center into a leader in commercial vehicle solutions, producing air compressors, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and more. The company manages nearly 199,000 part numbers, earning quality awards from giants like Daimler Trucks and PACCAR. “Quality and reliability are non-negotiables for Bendix,” said Eric Meehan, managing director of operations at Huntington. Recent investments highlight this commitment, including a state-of-the-art BDC upgrade and consolidated damper production in a larger facility.

The BDC’s overhaul introduces automated storage, goods-to-person workflows, and enhanced warehouse controls, serving over 6,000 North American locations. Meanwhile, the damper consolidation streamlines logistics and paves the way for future automation. Sustainability efforts shine too, with a 1.168-megawatt solar array powering 30% of Plant 1’s energy needs since 2021, and another solar project underway at the BDC.

Bendix’s success hinges on its people. Cross-training and a culture of ownership ensure adaptability, while community ties strengthen its roots. Employees volunteer widely, supporting groups like United Way and the YMCA, contributing hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless hours. “We believe that being a good neighbor means rolling up our sleeves and giving back,” Meehan said.

From its start in 1980 to today, Bendix Huntington blends innovation, quality, and community focus, ensuring it meets industry demands while shaping a sustainable future.
