Wilwood Engineering has announced the release of a new TX6R Tactical Xtreme rear big brake kit designed for 2020-2024 GM 2500 trucks. This new rear kit is made to complement the company’s existing front TX6-DM performance brake kits for the same vehicle platform. The upgrade provides a significant enhancement over the original factory braking system, offering increased performance and safety for trucks used in demanding situations.

Upgrading from the smaller, original equipment (OE) cast iron calipers and rotors to the new Wilwood system offers truck owners substantial improvements in braking power. The core of this big brake kit is the TX6R caliper, which features a stress-flow forged aluminum body for superior strength and rigidity. This design is identical to the calipers used on tactical armored vehicles that weigh up to 14,000 pounds, highlighting its robust construction. These powerful six-piston calipers apply pressure to massive 16.00″×1.38″ military-grade rotors. The rotors are manufactured from a specialized Spec37 iron alloy and feature a GTB slotted surface and an E-coating for corrosion resistance. For superior heat dissipation, the rotors incorporate 60 curved vanes to improve cooling efficiency. The kit also includes BP-Q ceramic-based dual-sport brake pads, which provide excellent response and durability for various driving conditions.
Seamless Integration and Customization
Wilwood designed the TX6R rear brake kit for straightforward installation and compatibility with the truck’s factory systems. An expertly engineered aluminum hat accommodates the factory parking brake, ensuring this important safety feature remains fully functional. Furthermore, the entire system is fully compatible with the OE master cylinder and the vehicle’s ABS system, meaning no complex modifications are required. To suit different aesthetic preferences, the calipers are available in a gloss red or black powder coat finish as standard. A wide variety of other color options are also available for an additional charge, allowing for a personalized look. The kit, with part number 140-18103-R, has a starting MSRP of $3,536.93.
