TMD Friction, a global leader in brake friction solutions, has invested €1.5 million in a new test bench to enhance its compliance with Euro 7 emissions regulations. This significant investment aims to reduce the time to market for new brake pads, reaffirming TMD Friction’s commitment to innovation and high-quality products.
Key Highlights:
- €1.5 million investment in a new emissions testing bench.
- Supports Euro 7 regulation compliance and accelerates time to market.
- Works in conjunction with TMD Friction’s existing 36 dynamometers globally.
- Provides in-house emissions testing capabilities, reducing reliance on external agencies.
The new emissions dynamometer will complement TMD Friction’s existing network of 36 dynamometers across its research and development (R&D) department. This investment is aimed at measuring brake emissions according to GTR24 requirements, contributing to faster and more efficient development processes.
With a history of involvement in the working group that shaped the Euro 7 testing methodology, TMD Friction is proactively preparing for future regulatory demands. The new test bench will be utilized not only for original equipment (OE) homologations but also for the development of friction formulations for both OE and aftermarket products. By having the capability to conduct testing in-house, TMD Friction can avoid delays associated with waiting for external testing availability, ultimately accelerating the delivery of parts to its customers.
R&D Commitment to Quality TMD Friction places research and development at the core of its operations, with an average investment of €30 million annually into R&D activities. This approach ensures that every product undergoes meticulous development and testing in-house, maintaining high-quality standards and ensuring customers have access to the latest advanced braking solutions.
The addition of the new test bench underlines TMD Friction’s ongoing dedication to leading the market with innovative, world-class products. Christian Stolz, Vice President R&D OE at TMD Friction, emphasized the importance of being prepared for the new Euro 7 legislation, stating, “We wanted to be prepared and guarantee a seamless process for developing new products in line with the Euro 7 legislation. Testing for emissions as part of the new standards will add an additional step within the overall testing process, but the test bench will allow us to conduct the required tests in-house, so customers can receive their fully compliant, quality parts much quicker.”
First to Market Ethos
TMD Friction maintains a first-to-market ethos, aiming to provide customers with cutting-edge brake products that cover nearly the entirety of the global car parc. The company’s expertise across the automotive, motorsport, and industrial sectors allows it to swiftly bring products from pilot to test bench to workshop, ensuring the latest formulations are always available for clients.
Exceeding Regulatory Standards
TMD Friction’s product testing consistently surpasses industry requirements. Each brake pad undergoes comprehensive testing that exceeds legal mandates, particularly for aftermarket products. These parts not only comply with ECE R90 standards but also undergo additional testing for noise, performance, and comfort — areas not mandated by ECE R90 but essential for meeting TMD Friction’s strict internal quality standards.
The new emissions test bench, which was installed in October, is set to begin operations imminently, enhancing TMD Friction’s capabilities to meet regulatory and customer demands more efficiently.
