HL Mando Earns Sixth Consecutive GM Supplier Award

HL Mando has been named a GM Supplier of the Year for the sixth consecutive year, its twelfth overall, winning in the brake control category for its Motor-on-Caliper parking brake system.

HL Mando has won General Motors’ 2025 Supplier of the Year award for the sixth consecutive year, bringing its total to twelve. The HL Group automotive unit took the recognition in GM’s Brake Apply & Control category, where its Motor-on-Caliper system anchors a North American supply chain built around its Alabama plant. The company reports that GM reserves the award for roughly the top 0.5% of its more than 20,000 global suppliers, with 103 companies from 14 countries selected this year.

Highlights

  • HL Mando earned GM’s Supplier of the Year award for the sixth consecutive year and the twelfth time overall.
  • The company was recognized in GM’s Brake Apply & Control category for its Motor-on-Caliper system, which integrates the parking brake function into the caliper.
  • HL Mando’s Alabama plant produces 7.4 million Motor-on-Caliper units a year for North American OEMs.
  • GM presented the 2025 award to 103 companies from 14 countries, or roughly the top 0.5% of its global supplier base.

A Sixth Straight Win in the Brake Category

The 2025 award follows HL Mando’s fifth straight win a year earlier, also in the Brake Apply & Control category. GM cited the company’s rapid communication, stable product quality, responsiveness to local needs, and competitive supply. The ceremony was held in May in Austin, Texas, and attended by HL Mando Americas Region head Jason (Jae-hyuk) Kim, Sales Director Jake (Jongkoo) Kang, R&D Director Jeff Pontius, and Production Team Leader Eric Slauson, alongside GM Global Chassis Body Structures Purchasing Director Kimberley Huot.

GM draws its winners from a narrow slice of its supplier base. The company reports that recipients sit in roughly the top 0.5% of about 20,000 global suppliers, and that this year’s 103 honorees spanned 14 countries. GM said the winners delivered measurable performance despite regulatory shifts and continued uncertainty in the global supply chain.

Motor-on-Caliper Anchors North American Production

The Motor-on-Caliper, which integrates the parking brake function directly into the caliper, is the product at the center of the brake-category recognition. HL Mando reports annual capacity of 7.4 million units at its Alabama plant alone, supplying multiple North American automakers.

Separately, HL Mando’s Georgia plant received GM’s 2025 Supplier Quality Excellence Award (SQEA) for its quality performance in the prior year.

What GM and HL Mando Said

Jason (Jae-hyuk) Kim, Head of HL Mando Americas Region, tied the award to the company’s North American investment. “This award is a remarkable achievement made possible through our continued commitment to our North American operations. At GM, speed, resilience, innovation, and agility serve as the core supplier competencies. Based on our expertise in these fields, we will remain committed to building our relationship with our customers.”

Shilpan Amin, Senior Vice President and Global Chief Procurement and Supply Chain Officer at GM, pointed to supplier partnerships as central to the automaker’s output. “When our suppliers, such as HL Mando, lean in with us on new technology and flawless execution, we can move faster, compete harder and unlock more value across the entire supply chain.”
