Affected owners will receive notification letters starting October 25, 2024.
Key Highlights
- Affected models: 2022-2024 Suzuki GSX1300R (Hayabusa) motorcycles.
- Issue: Brake fluid port blockage due to swelling of master cylinder components.
- Remedy: Free replacement of the front brake master cylinder body and brake fluid cap diaphragm.
- Owner notifications begin October 25, 2024.
The recall involves the brake master cylinder in the 2022-2024 GSX1300R motorcycles. The rubber components inside the master cylinder may swell due to contamination from the brake fluid cap diaphragm. This leads to a blocked brake fluid port, which could cause an increased braking distance, posing a potential safety risk. These motorcycles do not meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 122 for motorcycle brake systems.
The recall impacts a total of 6,338 units, and Suzuki has provided specific vehicle identification numbers (VINs) that fall within the affected range. Owners can find more information by contacting Suzuki Customer Service or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Remedy and Owner Notifications
Suzuki will replace the front brake master cylinder body and the brake fluid cap diaphragm at no cost to owners. Notification letters are expected to be sent to affected owners starting on October 25, 2024. The recall expands upon a previous recall number 23V-088, and any motorcycles previously recalled under that campaign will need the new remedy completed.
For further information, affected owners may contact Suzuki Customer Service at 1-714-572-1490 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit nhtsa.gov for additional recall details.
