Recall Summary
Chrysler has initiated a recall of certain 2025 Ram 1500 vehicles as a result of potentially damaged front wheel hub encoder rings. These rings, if compromised, can disable the electronic stability control (ESC) system, which is essential for maintaining vehicle stability. Due to this issue, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 126, which pertains to ESC systems. The affected vehicles were produced during a specific period from October 13, 2023, to August 11, 2024, when an incorrect part handling process was in place.
Remedy and Notification
To address the issue, dealers will inspect and replace the front wheel bearing hub assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by December 19, 2024. Owners can contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 for more information. FCA’s internal recall number for this issue is 97B.
For further assistance, owners may also reach out to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov.
Details on Noncompliance
The failure of the ESC system results in a lack of stability control during critical driving phases such as acceleration, coasting, and braking. This noncompliance with FMVSS 126 poses a serious safety risk as it may result in a crash without warning when ESC intervention is expected.
The investigation into this issue began on June 4, 2024, when Chrysler’s Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (TSRC) team became aware of damaged front wheel bearing encoder rings affecting the 2025 Ram 1500. Following an extensive analysis that lasted until October 2024, Chrysler decided to conduct a voluntary recall of all impacted vehicles.
Owners are encouraged to ensure their vehicle’s safety compliance by responding promptly to the recall notice and scheduling the necessary inspections and repairs with authorized dealers.
