Oshkosh Corporation is recalling 5,242 Next Generation Delivery Vehicles over a brake pedal assembly defect that could result in complete loss of braking capability. The recall affects both electric and gasoline-powered variants of the NGDV, the purpose-built mail delivery truck designed for the United States Postal Service.
Highlights
- Oshkosh is recalling 5,242 model year 2025–2026 NGDVs after finding that a brake pedal mounting pin and retaining clip may not have been installed during assembly.
- An unsecured brake actuator rod can separate from the pedal, potentially causing total service brake failure and increasing crash risk.
- NHTSA has assigned Campaign Number 26V074000. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning Feb. 16, 2026.
- Oshkosh has implemented a corrected production process using parts scanning verification for all vehicles built after Jan. 28, 2026.
Defect Details
According to the Part 573 Safety Recall Report filed with NHTSA on Feb. 11, 2026, the brake pedal mounting pin (part number BK21-2525-AA) and retaining clip (part number YC15-3757-BA) may be missing from the brake pedal assembly. Without these components, the brake actuator rod is not fully secured to the brake pedal.
Over time, the unsecured rod may separate from the mounting pin, compromising service brake operation. NHTSA classifies the affected component under Service Brakes, Hydraulic. No crashes or injuries have been reported.
Affected Vehicles
The recall covers four vehicle configurations produced between April 2024 and January 2026:
- 2025 Oshkosh NGDV (gasoline): 3,564 units
- 2025 Oshkosh NGDV Electric: 764 units
- 2026 Oshkosh NGDV (gasoline): 854 units
- 2026 Oshkosh NGDV Electric: 60 units
Oshkosh estimates that approximately 0.1% of the recalled population actually contains the defect. The recall population includes all vehicles built from the start of production until a corrected process was implemented.
Investigation Timeline
Oshkosh received its first field report on Dec. 10, 2025, identifying a vehicle missing the brake pedal mounting pin and retaining clip. In that instance, no reduction in brake performance was observed, and the customer was instructed to install the missing parts.
A second report on Jan. 26, 2026, alleged that a vehicle experienced a complete loss of service brake function. Oshkosh’s investigation confirmed the mounting pin and retaining clip were absent from the brake pedal assembly.
The company quarantined all in-process builds at its manufacturing facility on Jan. 27, 2026. Two days later, Oshkosh issued an inspection and repair procedure to the fleet customer. A formal safety recall decision was made on Feb. 2, 2026.
Remedy and Production Fix
Oshkosh will inspect affected vehicles and install the mounting pin and retaining clip if missing, at no charge. The company has issued a consumer advisory recommending owners do not drive affected vehicles and park them outside until the inspection is completed.
Beginning Jan. 28, 2026, Oshkosh revised its work instructions and production processes to include parts-scanning verification of the brake pedal mounting pin and retaining clip installation. All vehicles produced after that date conform to the updated process.
Owner Contact
Oshkosh does not sell NGDVs through traditional dealerships. Notification letters will be mailed to affected customers beginning Feb. 16, 2026. Owners may contact Oshkosh Defense customer service at 1-833-304-8100. The manufacturer’s internal recall number is NGDV_TSB_059.
