UK brake fluid specialist Orthene Chemicals and Thai lubricant manufacturer P.S.P. Specialties Public Company Limited (PSP) will spend the next 8–10 weeks commissioning DOT 3, DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 brake fluid production at PSP’s manufacturing facilities in Thailand. The partnership moved into its implementation phase this week, with Orthene Chemicals acting as technical partner and PSP providing manufacturing infrastructure, quality systems, packaging and its commercial network. According to Orthene, initial supply will focus on customers in Thailand and the wider ASEAN region.
Highlights
- 8–10 week commissioning program at PSP’s Thai facilities to prepare for commercial brake fluid supply
- Three fluid grades in the initial scope: DOT 3, DOT 4 and DOT 5.1
- Founded in 1976, Orthene brings five decades of brake fluid formulation, blending, filling and packaging work to the partnership
- Initial market focus on Thailand and the wider ASEAN region
What Will Orthene Provide to PSP?
Under the partnership, Orthene will support PSP across several technical areas:
- Formulation and specifications: product formulations and technical specifications for the brake fluids produced in Thailand
- Laboratory protocols: testing and quality procedures for the new production environment
- Training: instruction for PSP teams during and after commissioning
- Regulatory and compliance: support on the requirements for internationally compliant brake fluids
- Product development: ongoing development and innovation work
PSP contributes manufacturing and packaging capability, established quality systems and a commercial network across Thailand and the ASEAN region. The companies say they intend to build a regional brake fluid capability that pairs international technical standards with local manufacturing and supply.
Five Decades of Brake Fluid Specialization
Orthene was founded in the UK in 1976 and has focused on the formulation, development, blending, filling and packaging of brake fluids since. The company applies that work across automotive, motorsport, industrial and other specialist applications internationally.
Orthene describes the PSP agreement as an important step in its international growth. Lloyd Ker, CEO of Orthene Chemicals, said:
“This is an exciting and strategically important step for Orthene. For 50 years, we have built specialist knowledge and expertise in brake fluid technology here in the UK. Our partnership with PSP gives us the opportunity to combine that expertise with an outstanding regional manufacturing and commercial platform.
“Asia is an important part of Orthene’s international growth ambitions and we believe PSP is an excellent long-term partner with whom to build that future. Formalising our strategic collaboration moves us from planning into execution, and we are incredibly excited about what the two organisations can achieve together.”

How Will Production Be Commissioned?
Teams from both companies will work through the commissioning program together. The work covers technical knowledge transfer, production preparation, training, laboratory protocols, and the quality, regulatory and operational requirements needed to begin manufacturing.
Dan Stafford, Head Chemist at Orthene Chemicals, said:
“The next phase is about taking our brake fluid knowledge, formulations and technical standards and successfully transferring those into a new production environment.
“Our teams will be working closely with PSP throughout the commissioning process to ensure that the technology, laboratory capability, processes, training and quality systems are all in place. Maintaining the standards that customers expect from Orthene is fundamental, and we have been extremely impressed by the technical capability and commitment of the PSP team.”
Commercial Opportunity in the ASEAN Market
The partnership also gives the companies access to PSP’s established lubricant customers, many of whom buy brake fluids alongside their wider automotive and industrial product requirements. Both organizations will continue developing their respective sales, according to the release.
Mark Callaghan, Head of Global Sales at Orthene Chemicals, said:
“This partnership creates a genuinely exciting commercial opportunity. It combines Orthene’s specialist brake fluid expertise with PSP’s manufacturing capability, established customer relationships and knowledge of the ASEAN market.
“Our focus now is firmly on execution: commissioning production successfully, supporting PSP and its customers, and building a strong platform for sustainable growth across the region. We are looking forward to getting product into production and taking this partnership into its next phase.”
Orthene says the collaboration is a milestone in its strategy to make its brake fluid technology and products more accessible to customers worldwide.
