New Infineon Gate Driver for By-Wire Systems

Infineon Technologies AG has unveiled the MOTIX™ TLE9189, a new 3-phase gate driver IC designed for safety-critical motor control applications such as brake-by-wire and steer-by-wire systems. This gate driver IC is compliant with ASIL-D and offers enhanced functionalities for 12 V brushless DC (BLDC) motors, targeting growing demand in motor control for by-wire solutions.

  • Supports safety-critical by-wire applications
  • Qualified under AEC Q100 Grade 0 and ISO 26262 standards
  • Available in two different package options

The TLE9189 gate driver IC is optimized for 12 V automotive battery systems and comes in two different packages: TQFP-48 (9 x 9 mm²) and VQFN-48 (7 x 7 mm²), giving customers the flexibility to choose based on their specific application needs. It offers a wide supply voltage range from 4.2 V to 36 V, ideal for various automotive applications. The product features a conventional motor control concept using PWM input and integrated current sense amplifiers, ensuring accurate current sensing and increased efficiency.

The adaptive MOSFET control function, patented by Infineon, is one of the standout features of the TLE9189, significantly improving EMC performance while reducing power losses and achieving the desired switching time. The device also incorporates various monitoring and diagnostic functions for overseeing the operation of the gate driver, inverter, microcontroller, and MCU interfaces, making it highly reliable for safety-critical systems.

Infineon offers comprehensive design-in support for the TLE9189, including application notes, simulation models, configuration tools, and device drivers upon request. These resources are intended to facilitate smoother integration and optimization for customers.

Availability

Samples of the MOTIX TLE9189 gate driver IC are now available in both the VQFN and TQFP packages. Further information can be accessed at Infineon’s website. Infineon will also showcase a demo of the new gate driver IC at electronica 2024 in Munich from November 12 to 15 (Hall C3, Booth 502).
