SBS Friction A/S, a leading manufacturer of brake parts for motorcycles, scooters, ATVs, and SxS vehicles, is taking a significant step forward with the introduction of HeRidium. This new backing plate technology is tailored to meet the extreme conditions and rigorous demands of high-performance racing environments, particularly in World Superbike and 24 Hours World Endurance Stock class categories.

Key Highlights:

  • HeRidium technology improves backing plate strength and stability.
  • Composed of high-tech steel with specialized heat treatment.
  • Addresses issues of deformation and compound taper wear.
  • Available from July 2024 for DS-1 and DS-2 products.
  • Detailed information in the SBS Racing Brake Book 2024 on pages 60-62.

To enhance the strength and stability of the backing plates and to minimize the risk of deformation and compound taper wear, SBS has developed HeRidium. This innovative technology utilizes high-tech steel and undergoes specialized heat treatment, ensuring it can withstand the intense pressures experienced during competitive racing.

Allan Østli, Race Manager at SBS, highlighted the necessity of this advancement: “Over the past 25 years, motorcycles used for racing have developed a lot; more powerful engines, new tire compounds, suspension components, and a lot of technological integrations, just to highlight some of the developments taking place. All of this affects the amount of pressure put on the brakes as lap times get shorter and shorter, especially in extreme and high-performance races. With the new and innovative backing plate technology presented with HeRidium, we can meet what some of our Partners in Racing have requested, stronger backing plates capable of handling even the most powerful scenarios in racing.”

The new HeRidium backing plate technology will be applied to specific Dual Sinter products, identifiable by new labeling and packaging. Racing enthusiasts can find comprehensive details about this advancement in the SBS Racing Brake Book 2024.

HeRidium-enforced DS-1 and DS-2 products will be available for purchase starting July 2024, marking a new era of enhanced braking performance for racing motorcycles.

Since its inception in 1964, SBS has been dedicated to enabling Braking Excellence for two and four-wheelers globally. Today, SBS Friction A/S is a preferred OE and aftermarket supplier of brake pads and friction solutions for motorcycles, scooters, ATVs/UTVs, and industrial applications such as wind turbines.
