Motorcar Parts of America, Inc. (MPA) has submitted a safety recall report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding specific aftermarket brake components. The campaign addresses a manufacturing defect in replacement brake calipers designed for Ford E-450 Super Duty vehicles.
The defect involves dimensional inaccuracies in the caliper casting that may compromise structural integrity. MPA estimates that approximately 63% of the 440 potentially involved units contain the defect.
Highlights
- The recall affects 440 aftermarket brake caliper units.
- Insufficient piston bore wall thickness may cause the caliper to fracture.
- Affected vehicles include 2008-2025 Ford E-450 Super Duty models.
- The remedy requires inspection and replacement of units with specific date codes.
Defect and Safety Risk
The recall encompasses replacement brake calipers with part numbers BC155111 and BC155110. These components were manufactured between April 1, 2025, and May 7, 2025.
According to the NHTSA report, the rear caliper piston bore wall thickness is below the allowed minimum specification. This noncompliance resulted from the caliper sand core not being assembled to the correct dimensions.
The reduced wall thickness creates a safety risk where the caliper body could fracture under pressure. A fracture can lead to a loss of brake fluid and hydraulic pressure, increasing the risk of a crash.
In Ford vehicles equipped with a dashboard display, an ABS warning light may illuminate before a total loss of braking occurs.
Identification and Production Details
The components were manufactured by Anhui Shixuan Machinery Technology Co. in China. The issue stems from production dates where the supplier incorrectly assembled the caliper housing.
Affected Component Details:
- Brand: Motorcar Parts of America.
- Component Function: Replacement Left and Right Rear Brake Caliper.
- Part Numbers: BC155110 and BC155111.
- Vehicle Application: Ford E-450 Super Duty (2008-2025).
Units not included in this recall population were assembled correctly.
Investigation Chronology
MPA was first notified of a potential issue with these part numbers on September 2, 2025, by Wenzhou LiBang, though initial details were sparse.
By September 3, 2025, MPA moved to quarantine new units at its Mexican facility. The supplier provided specific details regarding the defect on October 24, 2025.
MPA Corporate performed structural testing on non-conforming castings on November 13, 2025, to validate the supplier’s findings. An MPA employee subsequently visited the supplier in China on November 21, 2025, to verify the root cause and corrective actions.
Remedy Program
MPA has established a remedy program requiring the inspection of rear brake calipers. Technicians must replace units marked with supplier date codes M32512132 and M32412087.
The replacement components will feature caliper wall thickness that meets MPA specifications. MPA plans to reimburse costs associated with this recall.
Notifications will be sent to end consumers after MPA gathers information from retail customers.
