Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2021-2023 S-Class vehicles due to a potential issue with the front brake hoses. These hoses may rupture and leak brake fluid over time, especially in hot and humid conditions, which could reduce braking performance and increase crash risk. Affected owners will receive free hose replacements at dealerships.
Key Highlights:
- Affected Models and Years: 2021-2022 S 500, 2021-2022 Maybach S 580 4MATIC, 2021-2023 S 580 4MATIC, 2022 S 680 4MATIC, and 2023 S 580e 4MATIC.
- Potential Safety Risk: A brake fluid leak can extend stopping distance, raising the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the front brake hoses at no cost.
- Owner Notification: Letters will be mailed on April 25, 2025.
- Contact Information: Call MBUSA at 1-800-367-6372 or NHTSA at 888-327-4236.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall (Campaign Number: 25V116000) for approximately 20,339 Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The recall targets specific 2021-2023 S-Class models produced between June 20, 2020, and March 23, 2022. Affected models include the S 500, Maybach S 580 4MATIC, S 580 4MATIC, S 680 4MATIC, and S 580e 4MATIC. The issue stems from front brake hoses that may leak due to material degradation in hot, humid environments, potentially failing to meet durability standards.
This defect could reduce braking effectiveness in one of the vehicle’s two brake circuits. While no warning appears before the issue occurs, a red brake fluid warning message may display in the instrument cluster if a leak happens. Mercedes-Benz AG identified the problem through field reports and extensive testing, confirming that climatic factors contribute to the hoses’ vulnerability.
To resolve this, authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers will replace the affected hoses with updated components (Part No: A2234203101) that meet durability specifications. Owners will be notified by mail on April 25, 2025, and can schedule the free repair. For immediate assistance, contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171), or visit www.nhtsa.gov. Vehicles built after March 23, 2022, are not affected, as they feature improved hoses.
Owners should act promptly upon receiving notification to ensure vehicle safety. This recall underscores Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to addressing potential risks proactively.
