Bendix Introduces Optimized ADB22X-LT for Lighter-Duty Applications
Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems has announced the upcoming launch of the optimized Bendix® ADB22X®-LT air disc brake for lighter-duty applications, such as line haul, pickup, and delivery, slated for release in the second half of 2024. This new version offers significant weight savings, maintaining the performance and safety features of its predecessor while enhancing fuel efficiency and payload capacity.
Key Highlights:
- Weight Reduction: The ADB22X-LT is the lightest air disc brake assembly on the market, with a 7.2-pound reduction per wheel end.
- Performance and Safety: Maintains the same torque rating as the original ADB22X while improving fuel efficiency and payload capacity.
- Enhanced Features: Includes Bendix® Wingman® Fusion™, advanced driver assistance technology, and iSense™ Pro brake wear sensing for better maintenance and operational efficiency.
- Proven Design: The brake features a redesigned caliper and carrier geometry for optimal weight and performance.
Bendix has continually evolved its ADB22X® air disc brake, which is already North America’s leading choice for Class 6-8 commercial vehicles. The recent updates include a more robust adjustment mechanism and the introduction of the Bendix® BX276™ air disc brake pad, which offers an 8% increase in wearable volume and a 40% reduction in wear rate.
Continual Evolution of ADB22X
The ADB22X®-LT is the latest step in the evolution of the ADB22X, featuring a geometry redesign that reduces weight while maintaining performance standards. This brake assembly is designed to meet the needs of lighter-duty applications, offering a significant reduction in weight, improved fuel efficiency, and increased payload capacity.
Maintenance Advancements
The new brake includes Bendix’s iSense™ and iSense™ Pro brake wear sensing technologies, which alert fleets when pads are nearing the end of their life, reducing maintenance costs and preventing rotor damage. This technology allows for optimal friction replacement schedules and offers real-time brake life data.
Advantages of Air Disc Brakes
The Bendix ADB22X and its new ADB22X-LT version provide numerous benefits, including shorter stopping distances, extended brake system life, and lower maintenance costs compared to drum brakes. These air disc brakes offer a car-like feel, stable stops, and reliable performance with minimal brake fade. They also enhance the functionality of active safety technologies like Bendix® Wingman® Fusion™ and the Bendix® ESP® Electronic Stability Program.
Since 2005, Bendix has produced over 6 million ADB22X® units, reflecting the growing demand for air disc brakes in the commercial vehicle industry. Globally, Bendix and its parent company, Knorr-Bremse, have produced over 60 million units.
Commitment to Innovation
“Our focus, as ever, remains squarely on constantly evolving our products to meet the industry’s needs,” said Mark Holley, director of marketing and customer solutions, Wheel-End, at Bendix. “In the case of air disc brakes, that includes driving out weight and operating costs while increasing the options – such as the ADB22X engineered for lighter-duty applications – we make available to our fleet partners. We listen closely to these partners, as together we work to shape tomorrow’s transportation.”
