GM Recalls Small Number of Blazer EVs Over Parking Brake Harness

GM recalls 20 Chevrolet Blazer EV vehicles over incorrect parking brake wiring harnesses installed during prior recall repairs, risking unintended brake activation or function loss.

General Motors is recalling 20 Chevrolet Blazer EV vehicles from the 2024 and 2025 model years due to a defective rear parking brake wiring harness. The affected vehicles may have received an incorrect replacement part during previous recall repairs, creating potential safety hazards.

Highlights

  • 20 Blazer EV units affected from model years 2024-2025 following incorrect parts installed during prior recall 25V433 repairs
  • Parking brake malfunction risk includes unintended activation while driving or complete loss of parking brake function
  • Parts catalog error allowed dealers to order incorrect chassis harness with insufficient wire flex protection
  • Owner notifications expected to begin mailing March 9, 2026

Defect Details

The recall stems from an error in GM’s electronic parts catalog (EPC) that allowed dealers to order incorrect wire harnesses when performing repairs under recall 25V433. The design routing of the incorrect replacement harness does not adequately inhibit wire flexing.

Under normal driving conditions, this insufficient protection may cause shorting or breaking of the parking brake wires. The result can be damage or corrosion to the rear parking brake wiring harness.

Safety Risk Assessment

The defect presents two primary crash risks. If the parking brake actuates while the vehicle is in motion, drivers face an increased risk of collision. If the parking brake function is lost entirely, the vehicle may roll away while unattended.

Drivers may receive a “service parking brake” warning indicator. In some cases, affected vehicles may not shift out of park.

Affected Vehicles

The recall covers Blazer EV units produced during specific date ranges:

  • 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV: 5 units produced September 11, 2024 through October 9, 2024
  • 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV: 15 units produced July 4, 2023 through March 3, 2024

GM estimates approximately 5% of the potentially involved vehicles contain the defect. Non-EV Blazer models are not affected by this recall. Vehicles confirmed through service records to have been properly remedied under recall 25V433 are excluded.

Affected Components

The recall involves the chassis wiring harness assembly. The following part numbers are affected:

  • 85067029
  • 85096928
  • 85096929

Investigation Timeline

A GM brand quality manager submitted a report to GM’s Speak Up For Safety (SUFS) system on October 13, 2025. The report identified that the EPC allowed dealers to order incorrect wire harnesses for recall 25V433 repairs.

GM opened a product investigation on October 31, 2025. The investigation reviewed warranty service data to identify vehicles that may have received incorrect replacement harnesses.

On January 15, 2026, GM’s Safety and Field Decision Authority decided to conduct a safety recall. GM reports no field incidents associated with this condition.

Remedy Program

Dealers will replace the affected chassis harness at no cost to owners. The replacement harnesses feature an overmold sleeve at the bend location where flexing caused failures in the incorrect parts.

GM corrected the root cause in October 2025. The service bulletin for recall 25V433 was revised on October 14, 2025 to specify correct harness part numbers directly rather than directing dealers to the EPC. The electronic parts catalog was also corrected.

Owner Information

GM issued a “Do Not Drive” and “Park Outside” consumer advisory for affected vehicles. Owner notification letters are expected to begin mailing March 9, 2026. VIN lookup became available January 22, 2026.

Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. The NHTSA campaign number is 26V031000. GM’s internal recall number is N252532830.

All covered vehicles remain under warranty, so reimbursement for prior repairs is not offered under this recall.
