Ford Motor Company is recalling 231 model year 2025 F-59 Commercial Stripped Chassis and F-53 Recreational Stripped Chassis vehicles due to a potentially damaged stop lamp switch. The defect stems from incorrect installation instructions posted at the Detroit Chassis Plant during production, which may cause brake lights to malfunction.
Highlights
- 231 vehicles affected: 146 F-59 commercial and 85 F-53 recreational stripped chassis trucks produced between September 29 and October 13, 2025
- Safety concern: Brake lights may fail to illuminate during braking or illuminate unexpectedly without pedal input, increasing crash risk
- Rollaway potential: Vehicles may shift out of park without brake pedal application
- Remedy: Free stop lamp switch replacement at Ford or Lincoln dealerships, with owner notifications beginning February 2, 2026
Defect Details and Safety Risk
Affected vehicles are equipped with a stop lamp switch that may have sustained damage during assembly. The switch, part number GL3T-9G854-BA, could malfunction after a period of normal operation despite passing end-of-line testing at the plant.
The defect creates two primary safety concerns. Brake lights that fail to illuminate during braking or illuminate without pedal input increase rear-end collision risk. Additionally, vehicles may be shifted out of park without pressing the brake pedal, potentially causing unexpected rollaway.
Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group determined the vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, Section S7.3.5, Table I.-a, which requires stop lamps to activate upon service brake application.
Vehicles Involved
The recall covers the following 2025 model year vehicles:
- F-59 Commercial Stripped Chassis: 146 units produced September 29 through October 13, 2025
- F-53 Recreational Stripped Chassis: 85 units produced September 29 through October 10, 2025
Ford estimates only 1.3% of affected vehicles exhibit the defect. The company has issued consumer advisories recommending owners not drive affected vehicles and park them outside.
