Brembo and Bugatti have joined forces to create a braking system for the Bugatti Bolide that sets new standards in technology and performance. The collaboration between these two iconic brands has resulted in a brake system engineered to handle the extraordinary power and speed of this track-only hypercar.
Key Highlights
- Bugatti Bolide features a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine producing 1,850 horsepower.
- Weight-to-power ratio of just 0.67 kg/hp for an unparalleled driving experience.
- Brembo developed the biggest carbon-carbon brake system ever produced.
- Front brakes: Two eight-piston monobloc calipers and 390×37.5 mm carbon discs.
- Rear brakes: Six-piston calipers and 390×34 mm carbon discs.
- Braking system withstands temperatures exceeding 1,000°C.
- 85-90% airflow directed to discs and pads for enhanced cooling.

The Bugatti Bolide is a marvel of engineering, embodying Bugatti’s century-long dedication to automotive perfection. It is designed to be the ultimate track weapon, pushing the boundaries of performance with its lightweight design and immense power. Mario Almondo, Chief Operating Officer at Brembo Performance, remarked on the uniqueness of the project, stating, “The Bugatti Bolide is a unique and very exciting project for the Performance Division of Brembo – it is really unlike any other track car, so stopping it is no mean feat. It was an engaging challenge though.”
The partnership between Brembo and Bugatti was driven by a shared commitment to achieving the extraordinary. Brembo’s engineers faced the challenge of developing a brake system capable of delivering consistent performance under the most demanding conditions. The result is a system that can withstand extreme temperatures while maintaining the agility and handling of the Bolide.
Front brakes on the Bolide feature two eight-piston monobloc calipers and massive 390×37.5 mm carbon discs, providing exceptional stopping power. The rear setup includes six-piston calipers and 390×34 mm carbon discs, ensuring balanced braking force. The cooperation between Bugatti and Brembo also significantly improved the brake system’s cooling efficiency, which is critical given the energy and torque produced by the Bolide, especially during intense track sessions.

Over two years, Brembo engineers collected and analyzed data from simulations, dynamometer sessions, and racetrack testing globally. This rigorous process allowed them to refine the brake system continuously. The Bolide’s brake system is a harmonious blend of engineering precision, featuring bespoke master cylinders and specially formulated fluid to further enhance the car’s dynamics.
The Brembo-Bugatti partnership has resulted in a brake system that is not only unique but also a true masterpiece of engineering, perfectly complementing the high-performance capabilities of the Bugatti Bolide brake system.
