Ducati Recalls 1,440 Motorcycles Over Brake Hose Risk

Ducati recalls 1,440 Streetfighter V4 and Panigale V4 motorcycles over rear brake hose heat damage that may cause sudden loss of rear brake function.

Ducati North America is recalling 1,440 Streetfighter V4 and Panigale V4 motorcycles from the 2025 and 2026 model years. NHTSA Campaign Number 26V050000 addresses a rear brake hose that may suffer heat damage from nearby exhaust manifolds, potentially causing sudden loss of rear brake function.

Highlights

  • Ducati recalls 1,440 units of the 2025-2026 Streetfighter V4/V4 S and Panigale V4/V4 S over rear brake hose heat damage
  • Exhaust manifold heat can degrade the brake hose between the ABS control unit and rear caliper, risking sudden rear brake failure
  • Dealers will replace the thermal shield with an extended, more protective version free of charge
  • This recall supersedes the previous NHTSA recall 25V013; vehicles fixed under that campaign still require the updated remedy

Affected Models and Production Details

The recall covers four vehicle populations produced between September 2024 and July 2025:

  • 2025 Ducati Panigale V4/V4 S — 1,098 units (produced Sept. 6, 2024 – July 25, 2025)
  • 2025 Ducati Streetfighter V4/V4 S — 264 units (produced March 13 – April 28, 2025)
  • 2026 Ducati Streetfighter V4/V4 S — 61 units (produced June 4 – July 7, 2025)
  • 2026 Ducati Panigale V4/V4 S — 17 units (produced June 23 – July 1, 2025)

Ducati estimates 1.8% of the total population may exhibit the defect.

Root Cause and Safety Risk

A section of the rear brake hose sits too close to the exhaust manifolds without adequate thermal insulation. Under high-heat conditions combined with braking pressure, the hose can sustain damage. This may lead to brake fluid loss and sudden rear brake failure.

The front and rear brake systems are hydraulically independent. If the rear brake fails, the front brake continues to operate normally. Ducati reports no accidents, injuries, or property damage related to this condition in the United States.

Early hose damage may be visible during inspection. Riders may also notice reduced rear brake performance during a pre-ride check. However, a hose failure can occur suddenly and without warning if the condition goes undetected.

Recall History and Investigation Timeline

Ducati’s internal safety commission first launched recall campaign CR285 (NHTSA 25V013) on Jan. 14, 2025. That remedy addressed the thermal shield’s position and fixing system.

On Feb. 8, 2025, Ducati received a field report of rear brake malfunction on a motorcycle that had already received the 25V013 fix. The company retrieved the defective part and began testing.

Initial tests could not replicate the failure. Further analysis revealed that the combined effect of exhaust heat and braking pressure caused the hose damage. On Jan. 27, 2026, Ducati’s safety commission authorized a new recall campaign to address the expanded population.

Remedy and Owner Notification

Dealers will replace the existing thermal shield (part number 75812282B, supplied by M.P.T. Plastica SRL of Italy) with a longer, more protective version. The repair will be performed free of charge.

Ducati implemented the updated thermal shield on its production line in mid-September 2025. Key notification dates include:

  • Dealer notification: Feb. 3–10, 2026
  • Owner notification letters: Expected to mail March 3–10, 2026
  • VIN search availability: Feb. 3, 2026, via NHTSA.gov

Vehicles repaired under the prior recall 25V013 still require the new remedy. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-888-391-5446. Ducati’s internal recall number is SRV-RCL-26-001.
