Toyota has initiated a recall of certain 2023-2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles due to a potential defect in the brake system. A software issue in the skid control electronic control unit (ECU) could lead to a loss of power brake assist while cornering, resulting in extended stopping distances and increasing the risk of a crash. To resolve this, Toyota will provide a free software update for affected vehicles. Owners will be notified by mail starting November 5, 2024.

Key Highlights:

  • Recall Campaign Number: 24V708000
  • Potential Number of Units Affected: 42,199
  • Issue: A skid control ECU software error can cause loss of power brake assist while cornering.
  • Risk: Increased stopping distances and higher risk of crashes.
  • Remedy: Dealers will update the skid control ECU software at no charge.

Manufacturer and Affected Units

The recall affects 42,199 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles manufactured between June 1, 2022, and September 10, 2024. These vehicles contain a brake actuator assembly supplied by Bosch, specifically equipped with skid control ECU software that could fail to regulate brake fluid pressure during cornering. The defect can cause drivers to experience a hard brake pedal, resulting in reduced braking force and an increased risk of accidents.

Remedy Details

Toyota will update the ECU software of the affected vehicles free of charge. Owners can expect to receive notification letters between November 5 and November 19, 2024. The recall is expected to be well within the warranty period, ensuring that the repair will be provided at no cost to the vehicle owners. Toyota’s recall number for this issue is 24TA11.
