CHENNAI, India — Spurred by a projected tripling of export sales, Siram Viji, the managing director of Brakes India, recently told Mobility Outlook he expected the company’s overall sales to double by 2027.

“This is what we are setting ourselves as an aspiration for us; what we get depends on market conditions,” Viji told T Murrali, managing editor of Mobility Outlook, concerning the projected growth.

To further bolster the commitment to global markets, for the first time in Brakes India’s history, it launched a product on the world’s stage. The Indian firm took to the exhibition halls in Hannover, Germany at the IAA Transportation event to unveil its 22.5-inch lightweight monobloc single piston air disk brake.

The publication explained the company’s position with, “Viji was confident of niche applications with the product in the US and South America. ‘We will start in this direction where we think we can penetrate the market and learn better. This will be our first step,’ he said. According to him, it was better to be prudent and understand customer expectations before slowly penetrating the market.”

The interview and subsequent article explored other thoughts by Viji on the company’s future as well as the industry’s. For example, he believes the core brakes for electric vehicles, as these become more dominant in the market, will remain basically similar to today’s designs and concepts.
