Bosch’s focus on by-wire technologies is a crucial step towards automation, with the Brake Control Pad leading the charge. This system eliminates mechanical connections, replacing them with electronic controls that provide enhanced precision and integration with other advanced systems, such as driver assistance and electrification. The by-wire technology also extends to steer-by-wire, which Bosch showcased alongside brake innovations. These advancements pave the way for new possibilities in human-machine interface and vehicle design, particularly as the industry pushes toward autonomous driving.

Bosch’s History of Brake Innovation

Bosch has a long-standing legacy of pioneering brake technology. From developing the world’s first anti-lock braking system (ABS) in 1969, which became standard in U.S. vehicles by 2012, to its latest offering of eBike ABS, Bosch has continuously enhanced vehicle safety. The eBike ABS, now available in the U.S., improves control and safety for electric bicycles, making it a significant leap in rider safety.

Electrification and Consumer-Driven Innovation

Alongside its braking innovations, Bosch is driving forward the electrification of vehicles, a trend spurred by consumer demand for both performance and affordability. At the Bosch Mobility Experience, Bosch showcased its collaboration with Linamar on eAxle systems. The Linamar Ram 2500 demo vehicle features front and rear eAxles that deliver 15,200 Nm of torque, highlighting Bosch’s efforts to integrate electrification across a range of applications, from fully electric to hybrid and hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Software-Defined Vehicles and Enhanced Safety

As vehicles become more software-driven, Bosch is providing comprehensive software solutions that enhance vehicle dynamics and overall safety. The Vehicle Motion Management system is designed to control vehicle motion across all six degrees of freedom, optimizing braking, steering, and powertrain dynamics. This hardware-agnostic system integrates with a vehicle’s architecture to manage complex systems and improve fuel efficiency or EV battery management.

Additionally, the Powernet Guardian, making its debut in North America at the event, ensures the safety of critical vehicle functions by monitoring and diagnosing electrical systems in real-time. This system provides an extra layer of protection for key components such as the battery and alternator, helping to prevent failures before they occur.

Driving Future Growth in the Americas

The Americas region is a strategic growth area for Bosch Mobility, with the goal of contributing 25% of the company’s global mobility revenue by 2029. Currently, the region contributes 20%, equivalent to $12.4 billion in 2023, but Bosch aims to grow this figure significantly by delivering innovative solutions tailored to both original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and consumers.

By focusing on advancements in braking technology, electrification, and software, Bosch continues to position itself at the forefront of automotive innovation. With a strong emphasis on by-wire technologies and software-defined solutions, the company is shaping the future of mobility, ensuring safer, smarter, and more efficient vehicles for consumers around the world.
