Pro-Cut International has added its X1 Super Duty DC Powered On-Truck Brake Lathe to the company’s free online return-on-investment calculator. The update allows fleet managers and shop operators to model potential revenue from using the X1 to resurface brake rotors rather than replacing them.
Highlights
- The Pro-Cut X1 is now available as a selectable model in the company’s online ROI calculator.
- Fleet managers can input brake job volume, revenue per job, lease terms, and rotor matching upcharges to generate revenue projections.
- The X1 features a 48V DC variable speed motor and low-range gearbox designed for heavy-duty axle applications.
- Pro-Cut positions rotor resurfacing as a cost-reduction strategy for fleets seeking to lower parts expenditure and vehicle downtime.
How the Calculator Works
The ROI calculator prompts users to select a Pro-Cut lathe model, then enter the number of brake jobs performed per week, average revenue per brake job, lease term, and average upcharge for rotor matching. The tool then generates a revenue projection based on those inputs.
Pro-Cut originally launched the calculator for its lighter-duty models. The company introduced a fleet-specific version in late 2025 targeting medium- and heavy-duty applications. Adding the X1 extends that capability to shops servicing larger commercial vehicles.
“The free Pro-Cut ROI Calculator is a powerful tool that helps fleet managers evaluate the financial advantages of using a Pro-Cut lathe for brake rotor resurfacing,” said Jeff Hastings, president of Pro-Cut. “As more and more shops are learning about the advantages of repairing and not replacing rotors, it was important to add the X1 to our ROI calculator so our customers could make informed choices and learn about the financial benefits of using the X1.”

X1 Technical Overview
The Pro-Cut X1 is built for heavy-duty brake service. Its 48V DC variable speed motor delivers sufficient power to turn large vehicle axles, while a low-range gearbox provides the torque required for oversized rotors. Adjustable tool arms and a 190 mm feed screw allow technicians to match-machine the largest rotors in Pro-Cut’s supported range.
The lathe includes separate speed and feed controls and is designed to machine rotors without removing them from the hub. Pro-Cut previously detailed a three-adaptor package for the X1 covering Class 5 through Class 8 vehicles.
Rotor Repair vs. Replacement Economics
Pro-Cut’s broader product messaging centers on the financial case for resurfacing rotors in-house rather than purchasing replacements. The company has previously argued that shops can offset lost rotor sales margin by charging a machining fee, while offering lower service quotes that improve customer retention and close rates.
The ROI calculator is the latest in a series of tools and resources Pro-Cut has released to support that business case, including an earlier version of the calculator launched in mid-2025 and a video series documenting repair-versus-replace economics at working shops.
Pro-Cut International, based in West Lebanon, New Hampshire, manufactures patented brake service equipment including rotor matching systems, bench lathes, and wheel handling solutions. The company is a brand under Snap-on Incorporated.
