Michelin X-Ice Snow+ Winter Tire Improves Braking Performance

Michelin's new X-Ice Snow+ winter tire delivers improved braking, over 26% longer tread life, and up to 34% better fuel and EV range efficiency.

Michelin has introduced the X-Ice Snow+ tire, its next-generation winter tire engineered for enhanced braking, extended tread life, and improved fuel and EV range efficiency. The tire succeeds the X-Ice Snow and targets drivers facing ice, snow, slush, and cold, wet road conditions across North America.

Highlights

  • Advanced FLEX-ICE 3.0 tread compound optimizes braking performance across ice, snow, wet, and dry surfaces.
  • Tread life exceeds three leading competitors by more than 26%, extending seasonal value for drivers.
  • Rolling resistance reduction delivers up to 34% better fuel or EV range efficiency compared to three leading competitors.
  • Piano Acoustic Tuning Technology reduces road noise for a quieter cabin experience.

Braking and Traction Performance

The X-Ice Snow+ incorporates Michelin’s FLEX-ICE 3.0 tread compound, designed to deliver consistent braking across multiple winter surface conditions. The compound targets performance on ice, packed snow, wet pavement, and dry cold-weather roads.

The tire’s winter tread pattern also addresses deep-snow traction. Michelin reports superior start-up traction compared to three leading competitors, aimed at reducing the likelihood of drivers becoming stuck in heavy snowfall. Lateral grip on icy corners has been engineered to improve stability and directional control.

Tread Life and Durability

Michelin states the X-Ice Snow+ lasts more than 26% longer than three leading competitors. The extended tread life is intended to deliver additional seasons of use and reduce replacement frequency, a key cost consideration for fleet operators and consumers maintaining dedicated winter tire sets.

Fuel and EV Range Efficiency

Cold temperatures inherently reduce vehicle efficiency. The X-Ice Snow+ addresses this through a low energy loss compound that minimizes rolling resistance. Michelin claims up to 34% better efficiency than three leading competitors, benefiting both internal combustion and electric vehicle drivers with fuel savings or extended range without sacrificing winter traction.

Noise Reduction Technology

The tire features Michelin’s Piano Acoustic Tuning Technology, a proprietary system designed to reduce road noise. This targets improved cabin comfort during extended winter driving.

Availability and Fitment

The X-Ice Snow+ will be available for dealer ordering ahead of the 2026 winter selling season, with orders opening in May 2026. Fitment covers a broad range of vehicle types:

  • CUVs and SUVs
  • Pickup trucks
  • Sedans
  • Hybrid and electric vehicles
  • Rim sizes: 15 to 23 inches
